10. Escape[edit]

Yuuri (monologue): A little bit before something terrible happened to cropped pony Maxine in Shin Makoku's ship, we, who left Small Shimaron, were still sailing, approaching Seisakoku.

FX:*wave sounds*

Yuuri: Even though the weather is fine, the sea seems rough. Could it be that some large seaweed or a gigantic octopus is clinging onto the ship attacking us?

Josak: No, you're wrong, young master. I mean, Majesty Saralegui said this, right? There's a special current here working as a natural defense.

Yuuri: Say, Josak. I'm thinking about telling a lie...

Josak: Eh, why are you saying that all of a sudden?

Yuuri: It's not sudden. I've been thinking about this for some time. You too saw what happened, right? In this ship, they're squeezing in the Shinzoku refugees that were trying to escape from Seisakoku.

Josak: Yes... Since they can't be sold as goods, or special commodities, they're being returned to Seisakoku.

Yuuri: Please stop talking like that. What Small Shimaron does is slave-trading. If you think about it, it's really, really weird, right?

Josak: Well... I think the same as you. They must have gone through a lot to escape their home town. And if now they are returned like this, who knows how much they'll have to suffer.

Yuuri: Suffer?

Josak: To make an example out of them, they'll probably receive a severe punishment. For example, their status may be lowered even more, to that of a fugitive, and their lives will become even harder.

Yuuri: But then ... !

Josak: I too was a refugee, you know? I left Shimaron and ended up drifting into Shin Makoku. That's why I wan't to help! So, what kind of lie do you want to tell?

Yuuri: I don't want to allow this ship to reach Seisakoku. I want to give all the Shinzoku refugees here, a chance to escape to a safe place. And in order to make Saralegui accept that, I'll have to put on a little show.

Josak: I see... what's the plan?

Yuuri: Well, you see ...

-- In Saralegui's cabin --

FX:*door opens*

Yuuri: It's urgent, Sara!

Saralegui: What's going on Yuuri? For you to show up like that...

Yuuri: It's just that something terrible has happened! He have to escape from this place right away!

Conrad: Yuuri...

Saralegui: What do you mean? Did someone do something?

Josak: No, not at all. The problem is this ship!

Yuuri: That's right! The ship is in danger~! Listen! Can you hear that?

FX: *something dripping*

Yuuri: Water is coming in, the ship is going to flood and soon it will sink!

Saralegui: I really don't think that's going to happen...

Yuuri: NO! We have to get out of here right away! We can't stay in this ship that's about to sink. We're going to Seisakoku, right?

Saralegui: But how can we escape?

Yuuri: There are emergency boats, right?

Saralegui: I'm not going to get in those small boats.

Josak: It's safer than staying in a sinking ship, king. For a while now water has been bam! coming in. And you too, Big Shimaron's emissary.

Conrad: Yes.

Saralegui: But Yuuri, what are we supposed to do with the presents and the slaves?

Yuuri: They will stay.

Saralegui: Heh... Eh?[1]

Yuuri: It's a shame, but there's nothing we can do. The lives of the people in here are a priority, right?

Saralegui: That's right, ne? That's exactly right...

Josak: Well, king, we need to get going. Please come this way.

Saralegui: I understand...

Yuuri: *sighs *

Conrad: You did well... You too seem to be a pretty good actor, huh?

Yuuri: .... !

FX: *Conrad leaves*

Yuuri (thinking): He noticed that we were putting on a show. I don't know when he will be warning Saralegui about this. I have to be careful. That's right. Lord Weller Conrad is the enemy.

  1. In the novels Yuuri spends a long time talking to Sara about slaves, and human rights and stuff. That's why Saralegui has trouble believing Yuuri would say something like that.
