FX: *footsteps*

Conrad: *sighs*

Günter: Oh? Conrad? What are you doing around here?

Conrad: Ah, Günter.

Günter: Don't say "ah". Since we passed each other in the hall way, come back over here and sit down. That kind of far away look, deep in thought, it's not like you.

Conrad:*laughs* No, mhh... well....

Günter: Good grief! When His Majesty is not around, Conrad, you suddenly lose all of your energy[1].

Conrad: Don't say that, it's mean.

Günter: But I'm right, am I not? Like a traveller that comes and goes you do stuff like lying in the sun all day. If your subordinates were to see you engaging in that kind of activity, they wouldn't be able to hold back their tears. After all this is the Lion from Luttenberg.

Conrad: By the way Lord von Christ, once again you seem to have manydocuments to take care of, it looks like you're busy.

Günter: This?*laughs* This is only the beginning. His Majesty is still unskilled and right now Gwendal is out doing the inspection of the national borders and left the Blood Pledge Castle. During these times as I am the Assistant to the King, even my subordinates flee. There are many important things that must be sanctioned with the imperial seal, but in any case, even if it's just me in the office all day, I will manage somehow.

Conrad: That's amazing, honestly.

Günter: Eh? Did you say something?

Conrad: *laughs* No. When His Majesty is not here, the Assistant to the King doesn't often get a runny nose[2]. I was thinking you're actually pretty average.

Günter: How rude! I'm never strange. Of course, since the other day His Majesty had to return to Earth, I cried for about 3 days.

Conrad: That happens every time, doesn't it?

Günter: At first it was 10 days, last time it was 5.

Conrad: I see... so you're gradually taking shortcuts to recovery.

Günter: "Shou"?[3]

Conrad: Ah! What I mean is that the period of time you get a runny nose is becoming shorter. Going about your daily duties, reduces the causes of your runny nose.

Günter: Yes, but having said that, when I cried for ten days, the amount of tears I cried was actually about the same as this time.

Conrad: That's pretty awesome. So you're saying you ran dry, huh?

Günter: Aham, mmm! I, Günter, for His Majesty Yuuri, will show that I can squeeze out all the liquids in my body!

Conrad: Unprotected-squeezer Günter.[4]

Günter*sighs*: And then again, what's up with you? Just now you looked ill, just looking at someone's face made you take a deep breath.

Conrad: Ah, that. It's just... I had a bad dream?

Günter: A dream? What kind of?

Conrad: It was a dream about something that happened a long time ago. From a really long time ago. From the time when I was still going on trips with my father.

Günter: I see. Alright. *sits down*

Conrad: Why did you sit by my side?

Günter: I was thinking about listening to your story.

Conrad: But you're in the middle of work...

Günter: I know how to distribute my time in order to get everything done. So Conrad, please don't worry, it's alright.

Conrad: Yes. *laughs* That brings back memories. "Don't worry, it's alright", huh? I heard those words a long time ago, Mr. Teacher.

Günter:*laughs* It's also been a long time since the last time you called me that. So now, tell me about that nightmare.

Conrad: No, it's okay now.

Günter: It's not okay, Conrad. Quoting one of His Majesty's sayings that Anissina has been compiling: "When people talk about a nightmare, and realize that they're not real, there's nothing but words of gratitude." So now, please talk.

Conrad: Uhm... but, now that I think about it, it's not something bad, Günter.

Günter: What do you mean?

Conrad: In short, that dream was about, when I was younger and fought with Mr. Teacher.

Günter: Me?

Conrad: That's right. And by the way, I wonder.... when was it that we first met?

Günter: That was a really long time ago. Back then, for a while your growth was the same as those of humans. And also, it was the time when the top of this head *ruffles his hair*, couldn't even reach the tip of my hair.

Conrad: Günter, please. I'm a grown up now, so please, stop ruffling my hair. *struggles*

Günter: Ah! I'm sorry. I got carried away. Even doing that brings back memories.

Conrad: Yes. My dad, Dunheely too, taught me at first how to fight with an unsharpened sword, but now that I think about it, it was a pretty slim sword. That's probably why back then, I tought I was pretty good with my childhood sword.

Günter: When I met you, you were already very talented.

Conrad: No, please. The day we met, when out of the blue I was given a sword with a thicker handle, I kept fighting and fighting with that posture, until I could fix the way I fought. It took me a while to realize what was wrong.

Günter: Really, is that so? But even though it was unrefined , your sword was certainly shiny. That's why when I was teaching you how to move your feet and hands, I thought that I wanted to teach you everything.

Conrad: I liked the way my teacher moved the sword, as if he was dancing. It was so refined and agile, in other words, I thought it looked like a big white bird flapping its wings.[5]

Günter: That's the first time I hear that praise.

Conrad: *laughs* Well, that's because it's the first time I'm saying this.

Günter: *laughs* You were really an excellent student. Not even among the many disciples I trained, was there ever one that surpassed you. Neither before or after you, did I have a student that was better than you.

Conrad: Eh? That's the first time I hear that praise.

Günter: That's because it's the first time I'm saying this, to you.

Conrad: To me?

Günter: Yes. When I saw how good you were, I thought "it can't be helped", this is because of his doting parents.

Conrad: I know that very well.

Günter: So of course I told people about you, especially because you were a student that made me proud. So even before they met you I was already speaking fondly of you.

Conrad: You did such an embarrasing thing?

Günter: Yes, many times.

Conrad: *sighs* So now the mystery has been solved. Günter, do you know what we used to call you back then?

Günter: Huh?*laughs* No, what did you call me?

Conrad: Uh.. I think it's best if you don't find out. It's something that happened a long time ago.

Günter: Is that so?

Conrad: Yes, really. But anyway, Günter. You haven't recently told that bothersome, no, no I mean that doting parent I'm thankful for, any of this, did you?

Günter: Eh.... ah... well. But I did tell His Majesty.

Conrad: By, His Majesty you mean my mother?

Günter: If I tell your real mother we'll end up having a confrontation between doting parents, and then what do we do? I was talking about his Majesty Yuuri, of course.

Conrad: Eh? When did you tell him?

Günter: The first time, that I met his Majesty.

Conrad: Eh?! Why?

Günter: Why ? you ask. Because of the connection!

Conrad: The "connection", you mean?

Günter: *evil laughter*Just think about it. You are his nadzukeoya (person who named him), and then I'm the one who taught you, so I would be the best person to protect him!

Conrad: Wait, Günter. That train of thought is a little bit strange.

Günter: It's not strange at all. It's my prize~! Undoubtedly this is the path that His Majesty the Shinou has made for us. The original intention of all my moves were guided by His Majesty the Shinou, to connect His Majesty Yuuri and myself. And in order to do that, Conrad was a convenient intermediary for our meeting.

Conrad: Convenient ? Intermediary?

Günter: Majesty Shinou! Thank you soooo much!

Conrad: Günter.

Günter: Thanks to you, His Majesty and I we could, we could meet, you watched over us.

Conrad: I did not, I did not!

Günter: You opened the closed door, and through the gap I could see the beautiful face of His Majesty Yuuri. " How are you, Grampa Günter?!"

Conrad: Grampa?

Günter: "Grampa, only with you I want to play catch ball!" Huhuhuhuhuu..... " But are you sure Your Majesty that you don't want to play catch ball with Conrad?" " Eh? I'd rather play with grampa." Ohhohohoho! Your Majesty!

FX: *mega runny nose*

Conrad: It's all coming out...

Günter: Your Majesty!!!

Conrad: Calm down. You're soaking all the important documents with that stuff.

Günter: Your Majesty!!!! *cries*

Conrad: Ah... Günter. Since you went over there to your happy place, you probably can't hear me, but in my dreams at night, I see the most beautiful and strong swordsman who helped me practice and taught me so much. The one who fought with young me a billion times. But once, when I got too excited, I put my sword over my head all by myself and to protect dumb me from the point of my own sword he grabbed it with bare hands. At that moment the palm of his hand was covered in blood. I had done something terrible and couldn't apologize enough. Small me was shaking and he, said: " Conrad, please it's alright, you don't have anything to worry about, it's ok." Tears burned down my face, and I thought I could truely rely on him, more than on my brother or my father.

Günter: *Keeps talking to himself in the background *

Conrad: *cries* How did things turn out like this?! I feel bitter about this, your Majesty Yuuri.

References[edit]

  1. Funuke: Someone who loses all of their energy, but it also means fool or coward, which is why Conrad gets upset.
  2. For lack of a better word to describe the "juice" that comes out of Günter's nose (That's what they call it in japanese, juice/soup), I will be using runny nose. This can mean either having a runny nose from crying or nose bleeding due to improper thoughts.
  3. Conrad says shortcut in English, and Günter says: Shou? Which means, small or a few. I tried my best to include the word "shortcut" in his sentence, but he used it wrong (and I don't think it was on purpose). What he really meant was: "You're gradually recovering faster."
  4. So I stopped translating for 5 minutes after this line because I couldn't breathe. Günter says shiboriku (squeeze out), so Conrad calls him Nama-Shibori Günter. Nama means raw, but also unprotected (as in not wearing a condom), so you put nama and shiboru together and it sounds very dirty. By the way, Günter has been given special names before, like in Drama CD 1- Merry Christmas in Shin Makoku, the people at the castle called him Mistletoe-Günter after the mistletoe incident.
  5. White birds are a synonym of beauty in Japan.
