FX:*running*

Josak: Hello, commander. How are you?

Conrad: What? Well, if it isn't Josak. What's up with that luggage?

Josak: Don't say "what?!" like that. How cold. Didn't we use to eat out of the same pot?[1]

Conrad: Stop those remarks that give place to misunderstandings. I don't remember ever eating from the same pot with you.

Josak: Eh.. what a boring reaction...

Conrad: Is that all the business you had with me?

Josak: What? If it has nothing to do with my job, we childhood friends can't talk? Gurrier is shaad. (*sad)

Conrad:*sighs* Since you're loitering in a place like this, I imagine you've finished your mission?

Josak: Yes... thanks, Lord Weller.[2]

Conrad: This time it took you quite a long time to come back, huh? How far did you go?

Josak: I can't tell you that. This one you see here, all the way to his bitter death isn't officially allowed to say a thing, or the ogre will show its teeth. For certain reasons, my boss was especially secretive about this.

Conrad: *laughs* Is that so? I'm sorry I asked.

Josak: Well, but it's fine. The job this time involved randomly getting soaked in water. It is not warm enough yet to get in the water, swim and dive. That's why it seems like I've caught a cold. And my beautiful skin is getting swollen... Ah, why?

Conrad: But wasn't that alright? In the past, swimming was your strong point.

Josak: Eh?!

Cornad: Eh?

Josak: Tell me.... do you mean that?

Cornad: What? What I said about swimming?

Josak: Right.

Conrad: It was your strong point, wasn't it? In the last great war, when you put on your swimsuit, you were always the first to arrive to the other side, weren't you?

Josak: Eh...well, I guess so, right? So? His Majesty? Is he strong and healthy?

Conrad: Since it took you so long to come back, you made the king worry. Go show your face later.

Josak: Ehhh!? To hold in his heart an unknown common soldier like me means that he is as kind as always, huh?

Conrad: Yes, just as you say. His Majesty missed you, the one who among the mazoku is the first one to criticize him .

Josak: Hey, hey, hey, hey, stop that. What's with that unjust, shameless name calling? Since I admire his Majesty, it annoys me to hear you say that. And also, it would be better if you criticized His Majesty a little bit more, don't you think, Lord Weller? Using the carrot and stick policy.

Conrad: I will not do such a thing.

Josak: But so you should? You're still holding a grudge over such a trivial thing, huh? Heee... I'm a little shocked...

Conrad: Alright, then let's talk about something that happened recently, Josa. When you left for the Voltaire territory, you took His Majesty to an indecent place, did you not?

Josak: Indecent, you say? That's the bar where I work. [3]

Conrad: You serve costumers dressed as a woman, correct?

Josak: That's right! And at night I even have a different voice~! *girly voice* It's the great adventure of Gurrier-chan and his happy friends~! Currently accepting offerings of money without any strings attached, from lucky Voltaire soldiers~!

Conrad: That's why I called it indecent!

Josak: But His Majesty seemed to have had a good time. When he was going back home, he said: "I want to come back~!" and kept being lovely and respectful to everyone. The "girls" at the bar, were going absolutely crazy over him.

Conrad*sighs*: Good grief! Even though Gwendal says so many nice things, the soldiers of Voltaire really do whatever they want.

Josak: Ehm... I'm going to ask you to please not tell my boss about what they do at night. He trusts his subordinates a lot, more than the commander even, because they're loyal.

Conrad: I think so too. Because the people who live like you, obediently follow his orders, right?

Josak: Indeed, and among those who respect him very much, I am the most obedient.

Conrad: Listen! I don't care about your issues with Gwen, but you can't take His Majesty whenever you want and move him around at will.

Josak: Hey.. you know? The main reason I did that was simple recreation. The one who moves him around at will is you, don't you think?

Conrad: I ? When did I do that?

Josak: There were maaany times.

Conrad: That's a false accusation, isn't it?

Josak: Eh... This guy is terrible! Are you not even aware? "Because of this, you can't do that, and you can't go over there" you don't let His Majesty do anything.

Conrad: There's nothing I can do! I do it to protect His Majesty.

Josak: Nothing you can do? Hah! For example, huh? If you allow me to say this, all of you people are way too overprotective! Double checking every order, inspecting every aspect of everything. Why do you put His Majesty in a box whenever he faces adversity?

Conrad: If His Majesty faces danger, he would be too defenseless. When you raise someone too, you have to make sure that the place is safe.

Josak: That's even worse, when it comes to your wonderful king you don't even realize what you do. And that's why you worry and try to keep him safe putting him in that box.

Conrad: Is that wrong?

Josak: What if he turns against you and bites back?

Conrad: Well, that would be fine.

Josak:*sighs* You are really stubborn. In the end, no matter what other people say , you go ahead and do as you please without paying attention at all. You've always been like this.

Conrad: What's up with you saying that all of a sudden?

Josak: While I was in the mission in a different country, those nights when I slept alone, I kept dreaming once and again about things of the past. And in those dreams you would fight desperately to death, picking up fights with troublesome men.

Conrad: That was...

Josak: Because of the way the commander was, we, your subordinates, talked to you till exhaustion, but despite your virtues you never listened to what people had to say. And then you went all by yourself, and grabbed the enemy's commander by the neck. At that time you almost, almost got yourself killed.

Conrad: Yes, I thought I was going to die that time.

Josak: Of course. And on top of that, among all those guys in our unit we had no MAgic users. And even though I absolutely thought we were over our heads, right there, in the middle of the enemy's troops the commander was taking everyone down, moving his brethren to tears, and helping me keep a cool mind.

Conrad: The fire in my gut ended up "coming out of my stomach", no, I mean... "it hurt a lot"[4].

FX: *cold wind blows* [5]

Josak:*shivers, then sneezes* Wah.. it's cold~!

Conrad:*clears throat* Uhm... what is it? Is it the cold that you caught?

Josak: No, it's just that after a long time, something rare occured...

Conrad: Could it be that you're tired from spending a long time in the water?

Josak:*laughs* Yeah, probably. Ah.. right, right, right. I remembered that, before I took this trip I had a dream about us as kids. It was a dream about being pushed down from a super high cliff.

Conrad: From a cliff? How dangerous.

Josak: I said" I can't swim", and the person next to me went *Don!* and pushed me from behind, and I fell down the cliff and then, *Bon!*, I hit my head and drank water, and there I was getting carried away by the stream, when some kind people came to rescue me.

Conrad: Eh? Well, but you survive alright?

Josak: Yes, miraculously thanks to that! That day I promised myself in my heart: "This guy does not listen to people at all. He just goes around smiling, but he doesn't care about other people's circumstances. If I continue to spend time with this guy and have any weaknesses, I will die. Or rather: I'll get killed. So in order not to lose my life, I have to be stronger than anyone else." And now that I think about it that is the secret of staying alive.

Conrad: Wait. What you just told me was a true story?

Josak: It's the truest of trues. And besides, that me that couldn't swim, ended up being the best of swimmers, and all of that is thanks to you.

Conrad: Me?

Josak: That's right.

Conrad: I don't know what you're talking about.

Josak: Yeah, I thought so too. I guessed that you must have forgotten about that experience, but it seems like I can never forget.

Conrad: I'm very sorry, I really don't remember anything.

Josak: How cruel~! But Lord Weller is that kind of man~! Good-for-nothing and wicked.

Conrad: Look, you...

Josak: What are you going to say?

Conrad: Nothing.... Anyway, I've been wondering for some time. What do you have in that huge piece of luggage you're carrying around?

Josak: Oh, my. I completely forgot about that. Now, tell me commander, haven't you seen my boss?

Conrad: Gwen?

Josak: Yes. It's just that, in this luggage I have... *opens it* CHAN~! A little gift for His Excellency Gwendal.

Conrad: What is that huge amount of... what seems to be white cats...

Josak: Eh? You don't know it? This is a super popular character called "Ketty-chan" FX:*gives it to him*

Conrad: Ah... this is... something Gwendal would like.

Josak: Exactly. Since it's not just for children, you can find special versions of Ketty from particular places usually called name-of-the-place-Ketty[6]. So I sent him information about the Ketties with a white dove and when His Excellency found out, he got stuck on them.

Conrad: Right?

Josak: So this time, part of my work had to do with Ketty, and I had to stop and visit a Ketty museum to buy and bring many Ketties from different places. Since I sent him a message by dove to let him know I would be bringing them, I thought that His Excellency would be waiting for them...

Conrad: Ah... So that's what it was...

Josak: Mh?

Conrad: This morning, Gwen was fidgety for some reason, looking happy. I thought that he was waiting for your arrival.

Josak: "Happy" I'm loved~!

Conrad: But in reality he was just waiting for the Ketties that you were bringing.

Josak: "Depressed" Oh, well there's nothing to be done. So, where's my boss?

Conrad: Since he was so fidgety since morning... he was scolded like this "What's with you, Gwendal?!, Even though you're old enough to know better, you're not calm" by Lady von Karbelnikoff and then got kidnapped.

Josak: By Anissina-chan?

Conrad: Don't say chan.

Josak: So, right now...

Conrad: Ah.... Probably...

FX: *explosion*

Josak: Hey, I just heard an explosion, and a throaty male voice screaming...

Conrad: You heard it, huh? It's coming from Poison Lady's laboratory.

FX: *More explosions*

Conrad: I wonder if he's still alive?

Josak: Y.. Your Excellency! Lord Weller you must go help him!

Conrad: Ahh.. no, I'm fine.

Josak: But this is not good, so come on, go!

Conrad: Ah...I'm sorry, I will go later.

Josak: It's your brother!

Conrad: Well, that's that and this is this.

Josak: How cruel~!

References[edit]

  1. Japanese expression: literally it means "eat out of the same pot", but also means" to have lived together", or "to be close friends".
  2. "Okagesama de" literally means: "Thanks to you (I was able to do X)". Sometimes people say it even if the other person hasn't actually helped them accomplish that. Here's an example: A friend (who didn't help you study) asks you if you passed the test. You say Yes, "okagesama de" . Literally it would mean: "Yes, thanks to you", but the person didn't actually do anything other than being your friend. It's common to thank everyone and everything all the time, and also to not take credit for one's achievements, (if you say you did something "thanks to someone else", it's like you didn't actually do it yourself)
  3. A similar place will be mentioned in Drama CD 31, Project B, but the place where he works will be in the city by the castle, in the territory under direct control of His Majesty.
  4. Oh, Conrad! I love your jokes: 1) "coming out of my stomach" (chou ga dekiteta) and "it hurt a lot" (chou itakatta) sound alike so he changed the last word to make his joke XD
  5. When the temperature drops and/or a cold wind blows, is because Conrad told one of his terrible jokes.(Temperature drop= so bad it gives you the chills)
  6. Ah~! So Ketty-chan is obviously Hello Kitty, but what you might not know is that what Josak is talking about is a true fact about Kitty in Japan. There are special Kitties for each location. One for Kyouto, one for Osaka, etc, etc. Here's an image with all the different Hello Kitties: http://trendy.nikkeibp.co.jp/article/pickup/20130130/1047143/01_px400.jpg
