Just a thought:「すなわち、…私達は、成し遂げたのだ」- I would've translated this as "In other words,... we fulfilled our mission."
Btw, the Flute was also mentioned twice in the second volume - in 「自由報道の国」 and in 「人を食った話」(Kino used laser sight to kill a rabbit, i believe it's Flute's).
Yeah, that was my initial translation too. It's just that I found it disconnected with the previous sentence (That's why I was left. In other words.... ) so I changed it... Oops... Do I revert? ^_^
Interesting! Did the name first appear in volume 5? I liked this rifle the first time I read about it. So I get giddy when I hear mention of it anywhere... Thanks for the tip, I'm going to check out those chapters! (Oh, the rabbit one is in anime episode 2...)
Uhm, i think "that's why i was left" refers to the previous sentence, so it should look like this "...So, we can complete the bridge, and that's the reason why I was left here. In other words—-". Furthemore, i suppose the main point is the fact that they fulfilled the mission (though they had to sacrifice their lives), and not the fact that he stayed there to fulfil it.
As for the Flute, you're correct, its name was revealed only in volume 5. In 'Country of free press' it was referred as 'rifle type persuader', if i'm not mistaken.
That makes sense.... :D Let's go with that translation, I'll change it.... ^_^
Ah, off-topic, but I just noticed a while ago that you tagged V5C3 "Tale of a Vendor" as incomplete. Someone translated that a few weeks ago, but I haven't checked the book yet to compare, so I'm not really sure whether it's really finished or not. Is it?
Regarding the "Tale of Vendor", only 4/15 pages (pp. 40-43) have been translated so far.
Aack... And here I almost celebrated the completion of volume 5.... (except for the chapters shown in the anime, that is) Well, thanks for the help there! :)
