Offside Explanation

Are you sure the translation of the explanation is correct. I thought Offside occurs when the ball is passed to another team member while being between the opposing defenders and the goal, ie: you can't pass behind opposing teams defenders only, other members don't count (opposing forwards, midfielders, even goalkeeper if he/she abandons his/her post). I'm not great at soccer rules, but I believe it's when you pass to a teammate behind the person closest to their own goal in the opponent's half. Which is what the translation says when you change any to all.

"A player is in an offside position if he is closer to the opponent's goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last defender (which is usually the last outfield player), but only if the player is on his opponent's half of the pitch." Quoted from Wikipedia's Article Second sentence. Offside foul can only occur when the ball is passed to a teammate while in the Offside Position. Glean what you can from this. Not all team players are outfield players though and that's what I'm worried about. Ofcourse I could be wrong Zero2001 17:53, 1 May 2011 (UCT)
