This page is dedicated to coordinating and discussing the February 2014 category revamping project.

Description[edit]

The Categories revamp project (CRP) aims to make finding light novels much easier. Related points includes a better way to manage the several languages we're hosting and making the sidebar readable.

CRP will ultimately allow to search novels at least in the following ways :

  • by name
  • by language
  • by author
  • by imprint
  • by status
  • by genre
  • ...and more if you have pratical ideas ! (by illustrator ? By year of first publication ?)

Progress[edit]

Categorisation by Name
adding a language subcategory of category:light novel in all main pages of novels
  • Status : Finished.

Done mainly by Darkoneko, Cautr, Cloudii, etc (add your name if applicable)

Categorisation by language
managed under category:Language. Subcategories (i.e. category:german) are now used as parent of a light novel category (i.e. category:Light novel (German)) rather than directly.
  • Status : Almost finished.
Categorisation by author
managed under category:author. Added on the main page (usually english) of each novel.
  • Status : Finished ?

Done mainly by Stellaroze and Kuroihikari (add your name if applicable)

Categorisationby imprint
managed under Category:Publisher Label (which already existed). Added on the main page (usually english) of each novel.
  • Status : ongoing.

As the category already exists (tho, should be rename it to lowercase Category:Publisher label ?), we mainly have to ensure it's present for all novel and complete where needed.

Categorisation by status
managed under category:Project status
  • Status : ongoing

In opposition to the other categories who are for the readers, this one is more oriented for maintenance (the wiki's contributors).

Currently, we just linked together the existing status categories : Abandonned, completed, hosted, inactive, prending authorisation, teaser.

  • We'll probably have to rename some of them for consistancy (my bot can do that).
  • We'll probably have to creating an "ongoing project"/"active project" (name to be debated) category
  • Architecture isn't definitive, to be debated.
Categorisation by genre
managed under category:Genre
  • Status : in discussion

This one was created by user:Saganatsu independantly from us. So far only a few projects have been added.

  • I have to say that I'm not too fan of the current subcategories naming.
  • To avoid abuses/misuses, we have to decide in advance on a fixed set of genres. Discussion on this in a section below.
  • Once a set of categories is decided, we'll post that on the forum so everyone can participate in their adding.

Notes[edit]

To avoid duplicates : the genre, imprint and author categories are only added once by Light novel rather than once per project/language (which usually means adding it on the english version). I'm not 100% happy with that but I don't see a better solution right now. DarkoNeko talk 15:24, 6 February 2014 (CST)
