Re: Altina the Sword Princess: General
Got a question, is the name of the Emperor Lian, Lien or Lein?
The translation of Chapter 1 says,
"How rude of me. I am Lien Fernandi de Belgallia. Everyone calls me Lian the Fifteenth."
But then he is called Lein the Fifteenth after that, so which ones are correct?

Oh, you're right. Oops. Before changing it, does anyone know which one of the three is the French name? If we use romaji, its simply Rian. Though using romaji for French names is out of the question. Any suggestion for which one of the three is appropriate?Rockmosis wrote:Got a question, is the name of the Emperor Lian, Lien or Lein?

Personally I would go with "Lien"Code-Zero wrote:Oh, you're right. Oops. Before changing it, does anyone know which one of the three is the French name? If we use romaji, its simply Rian. Re: Altina the Sword Princess: General
Someone can help me with military ranks in this book?
“We finally meet! You must be the fifth rank civil officer, Regis Auric, right?”
Wikipedia did't helped me with this...Fifth rank civil officer is a 10th highest rank counted from the top.
—There are marshal, general, lieutenant general, major general, and brigadier general that makes up the commissioned officer ranks.
Officers are split into two division of civil officer and military officer where the first rank officer, second rank officer, and third rank officer makes up the chief officers.
The one which comes after that are non-commissioned officer which starts from fourth rank officer to the sixth rank officer.
So it means that fifth rank officer puts him second from the lowest as a civil officer.
To add, the soldiers are divided into chairman, heavy infantry, and light infantry. Even if you are a light infantry, as long as you are an official soldier of the empire, then you don’t get bad treatment and salary. Conscripted farmers which are group of farmers and underage basically have to work for free.
For those reasons, having received this room when my rank is the second lowest from the bottom must be some kind of mistake. Regis makes such conclusion.

My vote also goes to Lien. Lein in French sounds completely different from the Japanese pronunciation. And Lian has a feminine feel to it.Code-Zero wrote: Oh, you're right. Oops. Note: Civil Officers and Military Officers apparently share the same rank. Chief and Non-commissioned officers can be split into Chief Military/Civil Officer and Non-commissioned Civil/Military Officer. The ranking is in the following order from highest to lowest:Sacredus wrote:Someone can help me with military ranks in this book?

I'll help with French terms if needed. Just send me any names in katakanas or terms on which you need help.

Problem is I want to use real ranks, so:Detalz wrote:
6. Rank 1 Officer (Chief Officer)
7. Rank 2 Officer (Chief Officer)
8. Rank 3 Officer (Chief Officer)
9. Rank 4 Officer (Non-commissioned)
10. Rank 5 Officer (Regis) (Non-commissioned)
11. Rank 6 Officer (Non-commissioned)
6. Rank 1 Officer (Chief Officer) - Colonel
7. Rank 2 Officer (Chief Officer) - Lieutenant-Colonel
8. Rank 3 Officer (Chief Officer) - Commandant
Here should be junior officers like Capitaine, Lieutenant, Aspirant
Non-commissioned/Sub-officers
9. Rank 4 Officer (Non-commissioned) - Major
10. Rank 5 Officer (Regis) (Non-commissioned) - Sergent / Adjudant
11. Rank 6 Officer (Non-commissioned) - Eleve Sous-Officier /Sergent
Maybe that was bad idea... :/

Re: Altina the Sword Princess: General
I just read the first chapter, and i am interested. Thank you to the translators and those who are helping them.
If you need someone good in French, I'm ready.
For example: Altina's name is Argentina more than Aljeantina.

I'm on it, but more help will be welcome (cause my general knowledge is quite limited).Ulrick wrote:I just read the first chapter, and i am interested. Thank you to the translators and those who are helping them.

Anyway, I'll finish checking the terms tonight, if everything goes well.
BTW, I've thought the same thing for the name, but since Altina's spelling is confirmed, that change is difficult to apply.
Edit : Remarks sent for Chapter 1.

Re: Altina the Sword Princess: General
Maybe this website may help for the military ranks, but since the series' ranks are partially fictive, it's hard to find the equivalent ones...

Re: Altina the Sword Princess: General
Oh my, looks like I still need to learn more about French language lol.
About Altina's name, yes, I changed it to Argentina for now.I'll also update the name and terminology page soon you can correct the error I made
I'm also planning to make a seperate reference page for each volume if needed. In other words the old way. I'm trying to focus on using not much reference in this LN to make it more French/English.
So if you see some mistake or weird French words that I used, do point that out.

Magical power of Japanese R/L! Anyway, this LN take place in fictional world, so IMO country names are only based on real ones.
Aljeantina = Argentina
Belgallia = Belgium(?)
Etc.
EDIT:
Also, Argentina in year 850? Even Vicings reached America in 990 or something.

Re: Altina the Sword Princess: General
Code-Zero, how do you think posting the next chapter. I know you will work on High School DxD, when the next volume will be out. So, do you plan to give us everything you translated until then, or each chapter?
You posted last volume of DxD in one go. That was quite impressive.
and thank you once again for the translation.
