Re: Essential Tools for Studying Japanese
those like Poke who have special tools for studying kanji or other useful resources, please add here or re-post here even if you have posted elsewhere. because it's too difficult to find them in threads like "Japanese in 18 Months? No way!!!". and I'll add them to the top post.

Re: Essential Tools for Studying Japanese
Eh Its been a while since I've been here. Well lets get through the stuff.
Anki:(Memorize pretty much anything with this program): http://ankisrs.net/
Note: Ipod version is 25 bucks, but highly recommended if you have an iPod Touch or iPhone.
Heisig Remember The Kanji .anki file location: If you are a bit lazy and dont wanna write mnemonics to all 2042 kanji.
Note:This does NOT have compound kanji.
Source: All Japanese All The Time
Those are the major ones.
The ones up next are a bit old but I found them from another source which I will hide in spoilers due to source content, but they could quite possibly could help you on your way.
101 Japanese Idioms: http://www.mediafire.com/?hydtm2iw317aun0
Note: The scan of the book makes it look quite old, so its possible that many of the idioms here will not be used often.
Basic Grammar Dictionary (Japanese): http://www.mediafire.com/?ajk17nu8newosln
Note: Needs a program to run it, its called WinDjView, however installer is packed within.
Kanji in Mangaland: (Part 1): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZAXIR9ZQ
(Part 2): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OJXGCOMT

Re: Essential Tools for Studying Japanese
I would recommend that if your learning japanese you also install the Microsoft Japanese IME from your recovery disk or if you cant find it look up Google Ime (Japanese version) it allows you to type in japanese according to a japanese key setup or by the romanizations of kana like ja-じゃ a-あ and even kanji if you know the readings so you can input nani-なに and then press space for 何

Well WWJDIC doesn't help as much... though I'd say it helps learning compounds.
