Squeamish Bloody Rood!"

You know, I still can't make sense of that last sentence. I can get where 十字, cross, equals "rood" (a crucifix, a cross as used in crucifixion, etc.). I can even rationalize 殺しの紅 into "crimson of murder", which I can argue is blood. What I can't do, however, is figure out how 吸血, "bloodsucking" or "sucking blood", becomes "squeamish". Any insight here is appreciated.
