Hi, I'm Rydenius[edit]

Hello readers, I've used this page to learn how to do wiki editing and to post some info about the (low) level of my translation ability, so don't have too high an expectation.

About me[edit]

I'm an American living on the east coast of the United States. I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and study Japanese in my free time. I have a JLPT N4 certification.

My Translation Skills and Tools[edit]

I guess I'm a newbie translator at this point. I have completed 3 semesters of college Japanese using the Yookoso and Genki (I+II) textbooks, and am moving on to An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese (Akira Miura & Naomi Hananoka McGloin).

I have also worked my way through:
Fundamentals of Japanese Grammar (Yuki Johnson)
Read Japanese Today (Len Walsh)

Reference texts that I am currently using:
Essential Japanese Grammar (Masahiro Tanimori, Eriko Sato) -- great text, I use it a lot.
A Dictionary of Japanese Particles (Sue A. Kawashima)
Common Japanese Collocations (Kakuko Shoji)
Reader's Guide to Intermediate Japanese (Yasuko Ito Watt, Richard Rubinger)

Web resources that I am currently using:
Denshi Jisho (Dictionary -- I'm using the public beta version of the new website)
ALC (Dictionary w/ lots of example sentences and does well with phrases.)
Weblio (Dictionary -- connects to several databases)
Memrise (SRS drilling for vocabulary and kanji)

Software tools:
Microsoft OneNote -- for OCR and staging my translations. It is surprisingly better than Adobe Acrobat Pro at handling pages with both vertical and horizontal Japanese text.
OmegaT -- a Computer Aided Translation tool. Keeps track of previous work to recognize patterns and increase speed and consistency.

I recently reached the milestone of having memorized the meanings for all 2136 regular use Kanji (which makes Kanji look ups go faster :)) and I'm now focusing on getting up to speed on all JLPT N3-level vocabulary for the end of year JLPT test.

Series that I have an interest in working on[edit]

Currently I'm working on:
マリア様が見てる (Maria-sama ga miteru)
