Wouldn't it make more sense to call Huey "Key Warden" or something, rather than "Key Warder"? What is a Warder supposed to be, anyway? --84.137.107.54 12:45, 13 June 2011 (UCT)

Warder. Personally, I'm quite fond of Wikipedia's version "keykeeper". EusthEnoptEron 13:24, 13 June 2011 (UCT)

Honorifics[edit]

I can guess the reason why the current translation doesn't have them, but I believe having them would be nice for the nuances. Mainly to know how characters address one another in order to gauge endearment and respect, but also for connotation purposes that'll help towards character building, or mapping archetype design. Besides that, for my personal desire to see how Dalian address people, and how people address her. If you have time, would you be will to edit them in, EusthEnoptEron? Much appreciation if you do. Just a reminder, the anime is only a month away. -Worldview9 10:53, 16 June 2011 (UCT)

I'd rather not. And most likely you won't be able to persuade me. They add nothing to the story/feeling and just don't match the English setting IMHO. By the way, Dalian addresses others most of the time with insults or nicknames, if memory serves me right. Honorifics are often omitted completely, too, or just happen to be 卿 or 様, which can be perfectly transcribed into English. Mh... and I'm still wavering whether I should watch the anime or not. The voice acting of Dalian is even worse than the character design ^^' EusthEnoptEron 15:25, 16 June 2011 (UCT)

if you don't watch it, you can't tell others what they missed or fixed the mis-impressions if any --larethian 16:23, 16 June 2011 (UCT)

Oh noes, now you've given me a reason to watch it. 原作楽しめない身体になったらあんたの所為なんだからねっ! EusthEnoptEron 07:05, 17 June 2011 (UCT)
ええええ!そんな無茶なことしないでよ!--larethian 17:22, 17 June 2011 (UCT)
Am I weird for imagining you speaking with female voices? And Eusth definitely has twin-tails...--Kadi 10:21, 11 August 2011 (UCT)

Alright then. You sound quite adamant over your opinion, so I don't think I'll be able to convice you otherwise. For the anime, voicing is okay, but the design is terrible for sure compared to the LN and manga's art/design. I'm more worried in whether or not it'll at least be decently faithful to the LN. -Worldview9 16:14, 17 June 2011 (UCT)

English Setting[edit]

If the setting is in England, it seems odd that Dalian would be known as the Black Yomihime. I suppose this is more of a localization v translation thing Unkani 19:58, 10 August 2011 (UCT)

I see where you are coming from, but is there any well-sounding translation? What do the subbers use? EusthEnoptEron 20:54, 10 August 2011 (UCT)

"Black Reading-Princess"??? or "Black Princess of Reading" (but the last one is not a direct translation, mind you). Then again Yomihime also sounds cool and mysterious, in line with the dark setting, doesn't it? Zero2001 - Talk - 22:27, 10 August 2011 (UCT)

Uh... Black Erudite Princess? Or maybe something like the Scholar Princess? Though I'm afraid the connotation changes a bit with either case. In any case, Black Yomihime and Black Reading Princess (Reading Princess just doesn't sound, well, noble enough) were both used in chapter 1. Unsure of what to do, I didn't touch either of them. Unkani 04:31, 11 August 2011 (UCT)

Personally, I think Yomihime is fine (referral = nickname or title, ie: shouldn't change). Just give a reference besides it. But then again that's just my opinion. The stance that this is an english setting so everything should be englishified is also valid. How is it written in the japanese version? That might shed some more light. Erudite means "learned" or "scholarly". Does it match up? Zero2001 - Talk - 11:08, 11 August 2011 (UCT)

Or we could wait for the english dub. LOL. Zero2001 - Talk - 11:10, 11 August 2011 (UCT)

読姫. At least in Chinese, it means something more like "Reading Beauty"; don't take my word for it because Chinese is only my second language. The subbers seem to use "Black Biblioprincess." It's a shame there's so few appropriate English words for someone who likes to read... and waiting for a dub would take too long, haha Unkani 19:28, 11 August 2011 (UCT)

Biblioprincess doesn't sound so bad, actually. Also, I think it's perfectly fine to be liberal with the choice of the translation. It just has to sound nice and catch the nuance (though as far as I know, "reading princess" should be quite accurate as a literal translation. But then again, Japanese is but my third language). EusthEnoptEron 20:13, 11 August 2011 (UCT)
Okay, I looked through all the subs I could find, and it really looks like "Biblioprincess" is the most common translation. So yeah, my vote goes to Biblioprincess. EusthEnoptEron 22:10, 11 August 2011 (UCT)

It's good with me too. Zero2001 - Talk - 22:36, 11 August 2011 (UCT)

Hah~ well your third language is one heck of a lot better than my second. No issues here Unkani 00:01, 12 August 2011 (UCT)

Hm, why not bibliophilic princess? --Darklor 17:46, 12 August 2011 (UCT)

It should be one word and more-or-less catchy at that, and by "bibliophilic princess" I picture a real princess who's troubling her father by neglecting her official duties for the sake of reading some teen novels day in day out, which does not quite fit Dalian et al., since they are not princesses in the original sense. It's more of a title. Anyway, I don't think we have to reinvent the wheel, so I changed all "Yomihimes" into "Biblioprincess" this morning. - EusthEnoptEron 18:54, 12 August 2011 (UCT)

Um, are we using British or American English here? Since chapter 1, I've kinda assumed it was British English, as I saw a lot of "rumours" and "colours" but when I peeked at Vol 1. Chapter 5 (or it it 7? The link says 7) I saw no traces of British English. Unkani 00:48, 14 August 2011 (UCT)

I would prefer British English, but since I'm used to using AE and no one seemed to care, I kind of gave up and went for AE. So feel free to change it to BE if you like. (Btw. the strange chapter numbering is a result from me strictly naming every page "Chapter #" instead of "Special Chapter #" for the short ones. Not doing this anymore, though.) The Volume 1 pdf mediafire download link seems to be dead, is there any alternative or can someone reupload it? --Vadosity 08:24, 21 May 2013 (CDT)
