Translator's notes[edit]

General[edit]

I've decided to stick to the spelling, capitalization etc. that Contradiction used for volume 1

Prologue[edit]

Chapter 1[edit]

Mincho font[edit]

Mincho font, also known as Ming, is a common typeface for Japanese, Chinese and to a lesser extent Korean. It is seen to be a traditional and more serious font, being used in textbooks, broadsheet newspapers and in some official publications.

twintail dynamics[edit]

Possibly a reference to the ponytail equation, which predicts the shape of a ponytail based on hair length, curviness and density.

tsukkomi[edit]

Originally a term from Japanese comedy, where the smarter member of the group 'butts in' and verbally or physically abuses the stupid ones, especially by shooting down their jokes.

highschool baseball[edit]

Highschool baseball tournaments (Koushien) are incredibly popular in Japan, on a level similar to professional baseball. Watch Ace of Diamond to understand more.

yakuza[edit]

Japanese equivalent of the mafia.

chuunibyou[edit]

中二病, literally middle school second year disease. A condition where the afflicted, usually adolescents, believe that they have a special power and have delusions with fantasy elements.

Twoearle calling Souji's mom 'mother'[edit]

Although the word for mother-in-law exists, it is possible to call one's mother-in-law 'mother'.

Golden Week[edit]

Golden Week is a public holiday from 29 April to 5 May, celebrating the birth of the emperor, constitution memorial day and children's day. The majority of people get paid holidays from companies.

princess position[edit]

Something like this

Chapter 2[edit]

Chapter Title[edit]

I used 'Deviant' in the title as a translation of chijo「痴女」 although chijo is a term specifically for females. 'slut' is kind of sharp tone wise and implies Twoearle sleeps around, which afaik she doesn't, and 'whore' and 'harlet' are quite old in tone. I thought either 'pervert' or 'deviant' might carry okay, and since 'pervert' comes up so often in conversations I went with the latter. A pretty subjective decision though

Souji's Mum's Title[edit]

Twoearle uses the title shougun「将軍」after Miharu's name here, but this word just means what we would call a 'General' or similar. I take the liberty here of using 'Admiral' here to try and capture the "evil intergalactic organization tone" here, but I might look more into this later and see if there's a particular term they used in the Volume 1 translation (although in story this is essentially a headcanon between these two characters and might not remain consistent).
