06. At that time, on Earth[edit]

Bob: Uh-hoh!, Uh-hoh!, Uh-hoh!!!

Shouri: Anyone ! Please explain to me this unnecessary scene!!!

Abigail: Yes! What do you need?

Shouri: Say... why has this old man with the lower half of his body in a WETSUIT, started doing the radio exercises[1] so enthusiastically?!

Bob: I'm not an elderly person! *dives*

Shouri: Hey, wait a second! Hey! Jumping like that is too flashy!

Abigail: Apparently he was really eager to dive into this Lake Constance, ne? Oh, Bob! That was really something else!

Bob: Thank you Abby.

Shouri: No wait! You dived while wearing your sunglasses just like that? And on top of that, it's nighttime!

Abigail: But in that case shouldn't you take your glasses... (off)?

Shouri: I'm fine! My glasses are a part of my face.

Abigail: Oh! So are you planning to put your goggles on top of your glasses?

Shouri: Of course. Without my glasses I can't look for the box that was sunk to the bottom of the lake.

Abigail: But it's weird... It just doesn't look right to put them on like that.

Shouri: I don't need to be told this by an American colored carp[2] like you, you know? You should keep your opinion regarding the gym uniform worn by Japanese men who wear glasses to yourself.

Bob: Hai! Hai! Hai! Hai! *exercising* And now let's take a big breath! *inhales* And let it all out ....*exhales*

Shouri: Hey Bob.... Don't just concentrate on the radio exercises. Do you really want to dive?

Bob: Of course. Why? Is there a problem, Junior?

Shouri: I can't advise an old man to dive.

Bob: Don't treat me like an old person.

Abigail: Shouri, can you dive properly?

Shouri: ... Ugh... Well, yeah maybe.

Abigail: Do you have a license?

Shouri: An active person like myself, doesn't have something like that of course. But I have the spirit to do it! The spirit!!!

Abigail: *sighs* I'm worried about you going first. Are you listening? Move your arms and legs all the time, okay?

Shouri: Before telling me that, you should say something to this old guy here.

Bob: Hey, I told you not to treat me like an old... Hm!?

FX:*helicopter*

Shouri: What is that?

Abigail: ....!

Shouri: What's that sound?!

Abigail: Ah, give me a break!

Shouri: Hey! There's something huge close to us!

Bob: Evidently some uninvited guests have arrived.

Murata: *laughs*

Rodriguez: Ken-chan?

Murata: Right about now, those guys must be surrounded by special forces in Lake Constance.

Rodriguez: Special forces? By those guys do you mean Bob and the rest?

Murata: *chuckles* Mhm.

Rodriguez: Why would you think something so dangerous happened to them?

Murata: Because I leaked the information... to the Swiss federal authorities, you know? I told them that an OOPArt[3] that the Nazis were frantically looking for during World War II is at the bottom of Lake Constance.

Rodriguez: Ken-chan you did something terrible...

Murata: If everyone is at the lake, then that means I don't have anyone following me, right?

Rodriguez: But won't it be dangerous if a country intervenes with the matter of the box? What if they go ahead and pull out "Mirror's Depth"?

Murata: That's impossible.

Rodriguez: Why?

Murata: Because "Mirror's Depth" is not in Lake Constance.

Rodriguez: Eh? But ... you said, you sank the box....

Murata: I did say that. Indeed I sank it with these hands. Well, to be accurate, the one who did it was that misanthropist French doctor, Henri Régent.

Rodriguez: Well, but then?

Murata: But it wasn't in a lake. I sank it in an ocean. Did you see the area that the plane just flied over now?

Rodriguez: By area you mean... the Pacific Ocean!? W-w-w-w-w-what do you mean?

Murata: I'll summarize it for you. A looong, long time ago, the ancestor of my soul brought two of the four boxes to Earth. A gloomy-looking guy with long hair that people called Daikenja. You OKAY so far?

Rodriguez: O... OKAY.

Murata: During the time of Henri Régent, both boxes ended up in the hands of the adventurer Hazel Graves. That's the colored-carp Abby's great-grandmother's grandmother... no wait, I'm confused[4]. In any case, that woman was Hazel.

Rodriguez: And then "Inferno of the Frozen Land" burned away along with Hazel, and the one remaining, "Mirror's Depth" fell into the hands of that dictator according to the rumors. Is that right...?

Murata: Yes, and then, the woman that was so similar to the great-grandmother, April Graves, recovered "Mirror's Depth" and sank it at the bottom of Lake Constance so that it could not be used for war. But... Régent didn't believe, you know?

Rodriguez: What didn't he believe?

Murata: None of it. He didn't believe, not even for a second, that the army wouldn't figure out the location of the box. That's why he changed its location. After the war, he secretly pulled it out of the lake, to continue to supervise it himself.

Rodriguez: Ah... Régent was the one who caused it... I see. He was planning to transport it by ship, so its location would be difficult to figure out... but in the end, he sank it in the ocean?

Murata: No. He was killed when the last private ship he boarded was accidentally attacked by friendly fire.

Rodriguez: Ahh....

Murata: What is it, DOCTOR? You look like you're about to cry...

Rodriguez: It's just that... it's just that, you know? They're there, huh? The memories from that time, they're in you.

Murata: They are.

Rodriguez: Tell me. Ken-chan, talk to me.

Murata: There's nothing to talk about.

Rodriguez: But, I want to hear it.

Murata: *pause* It's a weird feeling. As he was sinking into the ocean, he was facing up, looking at the sky. And as he looked up, little by little he couldn't feel anything. Above the water, red and orange sparkles popped off. It was beautiful. *sighs* And after that, he died... I'm sure.

Rodriguez: I'm sorry. Is it difficult to remember?

Murata: Not at all. What do you think DOCTOR? Can you use my case as a reference?

Rodriguez: Ken-chan, you're not sick, so don't call it a "case". I always tell you this, right?

Murata: That's right. In any case, Mirror's Depth is sunk somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Probably along with Henri Régent's body. In other words, there's only the matter of the other box, "Inferno of the Frozen Land".

Rodriguez: But that box went up in flames many decades ago, right? It completely disappeared in the fire.

Murata: That's more or less what happened. But I thought, maybe I can go there with it.

Rodriguez: Go where?

Murata: Over there.

Rodriguez: That's nonsense.

Murata: If we believe that it took Hazel with it to the other world, it makes sense, right? And didn't we come all the way to America in order to check that? To come and check the piece of the "Inferno of the Frozen Land" that your acquaintance has.

Rodriguez: Well, that's right, but....

Murata: Thank you for bringing me this valuable information about the box while keeping it a secret from Bob, DOCTOR. If the piece is authentic, it will probably lead me "there".

Rodriguez: Ken-chan... *sighs*... Wait, I feel sorry for Bob now.

Murata: Why?

Rodriguez: It's just that, in other words, if everything that we talked about happened, then no matter how much they look around Lake Constance, they're not going to find the box no matter what, right?

Murata: Well, yes.

Rodriguez: But despite that, Ken-chan , when we met them, you pretended to be in such a panic state. Ah... you're a bad boy, huh?

Murata: Are you talking about the karaoke room? I wasn't pretending there, I was really upset. It's just that, Shibuya has gone missing, right?

Rodriguez: ... Uhn... I see... what a problem...

Murata: That's right, this is a problem! We have to hurry up and find him.

Rodriguez: That's not what I mean, Ken-chan. I'm worried about you, because you are so persistent about Yuuri.

References[edit]

  1. In Japan there are morning exercises that everyone does since the times of the WWII. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS92XkVKM0Q
  2. Shouri calls her colored carp (錦鯉) because she was a wearing a bright kimono with a carp on it when he met her. I don't know if she's still wearing it though.
  3. Out-of-place artifact (OOPArt) : an object of historical, archaeological, or paleontological interest found in a very unusual or seemingly impossible context that could challenge conventional historical chronology.
  4. It's actually the grandmother of Abby's grandmother. So Abigail is the one with Shouri now, her grandmother April sank the box in Lake Constance during WWII, and Hazel, April's grandmother, was the one who found the boxes and traveled with one of them to the other world and is now known as Venera and lives in Seisakoku.
