The SVD is is one of the Dragunov's many variants. Its purpose was never really for sniping, as is obvious by many of its features (rifling, bayonet, semi-auto, etc). It was designed as a designated marksman rifle that was cheap and durable. It is not really a sniper's weapon, but I suppose the reason the author chose this rifle is because it it very iconic. As it was cheap and mass produced, it saw wide usage when compared to other "sniper" rifles of the era and thus wider appeal. It just irks me a bit to see Reki constantly being referred to as a genius of sniping and the author touting the praises of the rifle, when the reality of this weapon is significantly different. I mean basically it was given to a squad of grunts using AK-47s (whose drop off range is not so great) where the one with a little better aim than the rest was supposed to use it.

Ulus is a word from ancient Turkish.It's meanings are;
  nation, people, country, commonwealth of a nation

source:http://www.zargan.com/sozluk.asp?Sozcuk=ulus

Though it's in Turkish, it's also in Mongolian, and in this context with Reki, it's rather 'Mongolian'. Kira0802 13:23, 30 April 2011 (UCT)
