Tell me where that teaser ended(Rough meaning) and I can translate from chinese to english that same teaser, so long as its not that long.

But the starting isn't too interesting if I recall... Its not bad, but it cant bring out the story.

I never thought that could ever make a teaser, its only the description of the Narumi' sight in the school roof.
Its from the beginning until it says his school is popular because it allows loitering with the uniform on (page 11 to 13). But please, extend it a little all you can ^^

By the way I didn't include the first quote which is alone in the first page, but it's from a book:
「It's a primitive response to gratitude. To give pleasure. You see, our normal hosts are quite mindless; they can be thanked only by physical sensation」
「Thank you for accepting transporting me. Thank you very much.」
from "The Only Neat Thing to Do" by James Tiptree Jr. / translation Hisasi Asakura
the first quote its exactly as the original english novel (I got the PDF), the second one I couldn't find it on that PDF so I translated it just now. Alice is a fan of SF novels and quotes James Tiptree a couple of times (from that title came the legend on her door sign)

So, if it is like that maybe you could do a teaser of an interesting part ;) if you like.

(Hm and I thought that it shouldnt be so hard to get an Spanish -> English translator ;))

The actual novel of the quote? And is it really called "The Only Neat Thing To Do"? Because the Chinese translation says its from <<The Starry Rift>>'s "This is the only way worth trying".

On my sixteen winter, actually I met all kinds of people, including a boxer, a military guy, a gigolo, a detective and yakuza. They are all NEET(Note: NEET, short form for Not currently engaged in Employment, Education or Training. Used to refer to people that does not undergo further studies, nor get employed or improve themselves, bunch of youths that does nothing whole day long.) just that they are different types. The term NEET occasionally comes up on the news or newspapers, I thought it meant unemployed youths that lack motivation. But even as NEET, there can be different sides to them; Not everyone do not go to work or school for the same reason.

"The term NEETs, does not mean "People who can't do anything", nor "People who doesn't want to do anything"." That is what the detective told me. "What is different is the rules. Just as some people's life is like a promotion plan, its just that ours are pieces in chess."

"I don't really get it, does it mean you guys get in the way?" I asked naively then. The detective bloats her cherry-like lips and thinks for a moment, then smiles silently.

"To people who is rushing to move forward, perhaps so? I know they want to pack all the NEETs together, place a tag, and then drag them/us to the disposal area and throw them away; I can also understand that they want to point at NEETs and mock them/us. Laugh if you want to, but no matter how we try to argue and hide it, so far, we only bring negative influence to the economy of society, that is the unshakable truth."

The detective looks at her opened hands, then raise her head. This time, it is no longer a bitter smile of mockery, but a warm smile like the bright sun in a winter day.

"We will not mock at ourselves. Just as an earthworm does not fear darkness, a penguin will not feel ashamed to not be able to fly. This is the meaning of life, isn't it?"

I am at a loss of words, because I have never thought so deeply about this. Even if you use a bunch of seemingly difficult words, it all goes back to the same meaning------ You're just useless people!

But that winter is the first time I have seen a dead person, the first time I punched someone, and gradually began to use my brain to consider about survival. To bear witness to someone who gave up on life or to give up seeking death, I guess anyone would be just like me!

But that is something very much later. Firstly, let me tell you the story of the only non-NEET out of all the people I have met this winter, the story of a normal girl.

*

Near the end of November, I met Ayaka for the first time.

After school ended on tuesday, I sat on the water tower on the roof of the southern campus, staring into empty space facing the tall buildings far away. Normally once school ends, i would go report in at the computer room, and focus on club activities that only consist of one person. But on afternoons with computer lessons, even after school there will still be a lot of students staying back to play with the computers that they usually don't come in contact with. I am unable to bring myself to walk in just like that, so every tuesday and thursday I always come up to the roof to waste time. Staring at the computer room on the second storey of the northern campus, giving off a huge amount of "Get Lost Already!" waves, and sighing as I look down onto the streets.

The streets I currently live in can be separated into two colors, the long thin river that flows like the artery of a patient is the divider of the colors. The side closer to me has rusted roofs of factories, cheap housing lying back to back to each other, then high school. I am not sure why, but there is a lot of shrines and graves in this area; My house is also on this side. On the other side is a tall flyover bridge for a highway to the capital, a gigantic train station with countless railways, tall buildings packed along complicated slopes, shopping malls and television stations. On sunny days, you can even see the shadow of Tocho[都厅, a tall political building in Tokyo?] far away. Tokyo is such an amazing place, to let boring housings that can be found anywhere in Japan and tall modern buildings to co-exist peacefully here.

Looking down from the roof, the train station is like a scene in an advertisement on TV, without realism. Probably because I don't want to get close to that area? As we can wear our school uniform and just go out and play immediately after school, I heard that our school is rather popular in Tokyo; If the sailor costume has bright colors, it might even increases its attractiveness by around 40%.

It is a cloudy day that day, just nice that you can examine closely the glass panels of the tall buildings that is normally not possible due to its bright reflections. But talking about it, it is just a bunch of glass windows that are cut by similar methods. I always fill those glass squares with colors in my mind, sketching pixel art.
Is this the teaser? I think it is somewhere here, but I can't be sure...

Yes it is.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Tiptree,_Jr.
http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?48424
And that's the reason of "The only NEET thing to do" (or do they change the door' plate in chinese?, since "neat" and "NEET" sounds the same.

yes, that's just about where the spanish ends. thanks. I'll add it to the wiki.

and yes the tochô is the famous two-towers government building

The story title is Starry Rift? As for the other thing, it might be a double translation problem. "The only neat thing to do" converted to chinese(not too well done) and converted back comes in entirely different. So I guess its Starry Rift's the only neat thing to do?

And the doorplate says Its the only NEET thing to do too

don't know what is Starry Rift about. the novella's title is "The only neat thing to do", and the author is James Tiptree, Jr.

"Starry Rift" seems to be a compilation of stories where "The only neat thing to do" was included.
anyway that name doesn't appear at all on the japanese book. probably a double translation, since the novella name is translated in japanese (tatta hitotsu no saeta yarikata).

that full page on the japanese book is:
「感謝を表わす原始的な反応です。快感を与えるための。つまり、ふだんのわたしたちの宿主は、とても愚かなので、肉体的感覚でこちらの感謝を表わすしかないのです」
「ありがとう。わたしを運ぶことにしてくれて、ほんとにありがとう」

『たったひとつの冴えたやりかた』より
(ジェイムズ・ティプトリー・ジュニア/浅倉久志訳)
every volume first page is a quote of that style.

volume 1 starts with 2 quotes from James Tiptree Jr' novella "The only neat thing to do"
volume 2 starts with a quote of SF manga "Watashi wa Shingo" by Umezu Kazuo
volume 3 starts with a biblical quote of Daniel 12:2
volume 4 starts with a quote of the lyrics of "ROCKET DIVE", a song by hide

what I did was search the original version, like in volume 3. instead of translating what's on the light novel in japanese, I'd just search Daniel 12:2 on an english bible and use that. I did that for the first quote of volume 1 since the original novella was in english.

I guess the Chinese translator only managed to find the one in Starry Rift. In that case, its much better to follow your information then.

Japanese translator > Chinese translator

Japanese translator owns all!!

still your translation of the text from the chinese is way better of what I could have done... its quite the same so I suppose the chinese version of kamimemo is very accurate

Two reasons:
1) I am Chinese, or at least I hope I can still claim to be. So I have Chinese background, and I am educated under English, so I am rather not bad at both languages, allowing me to translate rather closely.
2) Japanese in some ways are similar to Chinese, so Japanese=>Chinese translations tend to maintain most of its meaning.

That is my reasoning for slightly better jobs, but I would say you guys are having a harder time than me, so you deserve more credit.

The novel shows interesting, for my part I started looking and I liked the first chapters of the anime, hopefully able to translate this novel because It promises are removed also successful in Japan and this is reflected in who is ranked 10 of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! with more than 530,000 copies selling and what I saw there is increasingly more interested in the novel thanks to the anime : D
