This thread is for the discussion about the inconsistencies already found and the new questions which will probably arise in future translations.

When I got to the translations for the picture with Asuna, Liz, Scilica, and Lyfa, I sorta got confused on what names I should use for the races.

Punching in the exact word into wikipedia, I got:
Asuna = ウインディーネ = Undine
Lizbeth = レプラコーン = Leprechaun
Scilica = ケットシー = Cait Sith
and Lyfa being a Sylph as being agreed upon far, far before. But Undine and Cait Sith have several spellings, so which should i use?

Shouldn't it be moved to Lingua Franca Lexicon?

I don't really think the different spellings will make too much difference as long as the spellings are kept the same throughout the translation.
Why don't you make a choice and put down a list of fixed translated names for translators to follow.

I'd personally like to keep them like that since that's what was used to translate the spoilers in vol. 1~4 so far, but since rnn and his team are taking over the ALO arc, I directed him to this forum and...yeah.

Any suggestion for the English counterpart of this In-game Nickname:

シンカー = Simca ?
ユリエール = ?
キバオウ=?
レコン = Rekon or Recon
ジータクス = ? (no idea for this)
アリシャ・ルー = Alicia Rue ? ( Google suggest this)
ユージーン = Eugene ( another Google suggestion)

Regarding Asuna's name, should there be a distinction between "亚丝娜" and "明日奈" (from Chinese raws; does this apply to Japanese raws?) in English? And also, why exactly is she called "明日奈"?

明日奈 is Asuna. 明(A)日(su) 奈 (na)

キバオウ= Kiba-ou
ジータクス = The Turks(?), the romanization should be Jiitakusu but ジ could also be read as The
アリシャ・ルー = Alicia Rue or Alisha Rue

So I was re-reading Volume 1 of SAO and I came across "Agas" which is the company that designed SAO. I then had a sudden thought that maybe it's actually spelt "Aegis" because I've come across the term numerous times before in anime and JRPGs. Could this be a possibility?

It's most probably "Argus"

No I think it IS Agas.

Since if there was a 'r' in there the Japs would say 'A-ru-ga-su' but it was just 'A-ga-su'.

Look at the novel title :).
In katakana they often omit "r".

Anyway it's just a guess - I think both translations are okay... just need to stick to one of them throughout the novel.

@Sharramon

Well, Sword Art Online's romaji title is Soodo Aato Onrain and not Sorudo Aruto Onrain. Japan's pronunciation is always like that when there's an "r" after a vowel in most English words, you read them with a long "aa" sound. Example being: Vector = Vekutaa(not Vekutoru), Hard = Haado(not Harudo), Guard = Gaado(not Garudo), Versus = Vaasasu(not Varusasu) or Perfect = Paafekuto(not Parufekuto) etc etc.

So yeah, i think it's Argus instead of Agas.

Should be Argus.

The original was, "アーガス", which is also the name of several actual companies and a video game.
All which were romanised into "Argus".

If we're going to start changing those, can we consider changing "Full Dive" into "NERDLES" (NERv Direct Linkage Environment System) as well?
I believe it was localised into Korean as "Full Dive" or something, but it's "NERDLES" in the original (Japanese) work.

Also, "Fina" (the tamed dragon) was "Pina" in the original.
