Re: Chinese terms
Could you give some context?
Just looking at it, I'd think 'tis "Place of a [insert large number] arrows."
But yeah, I can't help you if I don't see where it fits.

Re: Chinese terms
Maybe we should have a standard guideline to include the entire sentence somewhere...

Re: Chinese terms
No idea.
I only know 众矢之的, which means someone that has been targeted by everybody. Somebody that's the victim of everybody's hate, for example.
Or more literally, of everyone's arrows ^^

Re: Chinese terms
It's probably it. Since I'm using some fan-translations, it's maybe a typo or an error. Thanks, Yoake.YoakeNoHikari wrote:No idea.

Re: Chinese terms
While I was having fun doing a bit of translation, it started off like this:
Chapter 4, 1st line, newest volume of OreImo:
中二病,邪气眼,而又有一点电波的女孩
WTH are these terms???

Re: Chinese terms
There's somethingf I've always wanted to ask; does 少女 translate as 'young woman' or 'young girl'?

Re: Chinese terms
In general "young girl" or simply "girl" sounds more appropriate. Depending on the context, sometimes "maiden" is also a good choice due to the relatively literary nature of "少女" (when compared to the more general terms such as "女孩子").
Examples:
Examples:
纯情少女遇上花心汉是电视剧中常用的情节。
A maiden with a pure heart coming across playboys is commonly seen in TV series.
到了青春期,少男少女们会出现副性征。
During adolescence, boys and girls will take on secondary sexual characteristics.
少女思春是很正常的事情,杜丽娘要是不怀春就没有《牡丹亭》这部盖世绝剧。
It is normal for a girl to yearn for love. There wouldn't have been the unrivalled play The Peony Pavilion but for Du Liniang's desire for love.
花季少女
a young girl in the flower of her youth
少女为情所困。
The girl was stricken by love.

Re: Chinese terms
When does that term applies to? I mean, which is the range of the age for that term?

Re: Chinese terms
Depends. In anime/manga even primary school lolis can be "少女" as in "魔法少女". Of course the more traditional definition sticks to teenage girls and sometimes even young adult females.kira0802 wrote:When does that term applies to? I mean, which is the range of the age for that term?
The Chinese wikipedia entry provides that girls beyond 10 years old (and before reaching adulthood) are classified as 少女. Note that this is only a general definition and exceptions are possible.
The tendency of Chinese fan translations / localizations to directly import the term from Japanese text, disregarding the cultural and linguistic differences, doesn't help either.

Happens often, BTW. Just came accross things like 地下街. At first, I thought it meant underground street...Doraneko wrote:The tendency of Chinese fan translations / locations to directly import the term from Japanese text, disregarding the cultural and linguistic differences, doesn't help either.

I think it means "a target that public focus on(usually critical)".Kira0802 wrote:It's from V4 of IS, and here it is: 都被吸引了过来。由于这个原因,铃和塞西莉亚二人成了大家的众矢之地

Due to this, the Rin and Cecilia pair became the target of everyone's sharp gazes.Kira0802 wrote:It's from V4 of IS, and here it is: 都被吸引了过来。由于这个原因,铃和塞西莉亚二人成了大家的众矢之地
That's how I'd interpret it... though more context could definitely help.
