Post by kuroi_shinigami »

I could understand the meaning in Japanese, but how to translate it in English for sentence like

彼は馬鹿ていうか, 単純ていうか, 本当に意味が分からないみたい.

Whether to call him a fool or a simple-minded fellow, he really didn't seem to get it.

Thanks :D One more question. How would you translate オーラ負けしてからの握手では,彼女に分があった.

I could translate the last part to she has the advantage, but I can't find the right English word for the first part ><.

'I lost my aura as I shake hands, and right now, she has the advantage.'

Checking with you here, was the deed done, or has it not? I'm talking about the aspect here.

The deed is done, and I don't think that's a good translation for it.
One, the losing aura is supposed to be the adverb of the handshaking, not what happened because of it, that's why I need some kind of adverbial word/phrases for it.
Two, it doesn't connect well to the next sentence which explain the reason why "she" has the advantage(which is a silky smooth hand if it is necessary)

So you need an adverb. You want it something like '____ handshake'? I'll need the entire sentence then. Or maybe you can tell me which story, chapter and part you're translating now.

Uh, my bad, I mean adjective XD. It's page 82 of IS volume 6 chapter 2 part 4. The one before the Charlotte and Ran illustration page. Should be the 3rd sentence before the illustration.

Edit : uh, or was it adverb... I'm confused now lol. The losing aura supposed to describe the handshake. Is that an adverb or adjective? XD

Well, it's a noun, so you want an adjective.

You're right, it really doesn't fit.

Seeing that Charlotte was the one 'losing' to Ran at first, here's my sentence:

"Moving out from the defeat in temperament, Charlotte still has the advantage in the handshake."

It's not a very good translation, but I guess you need to work around. Can't think of an adjective to describe 'losing aura'.

Is it about pride that he did win? So that he is losing his dominance?
Please don't mind my bad english since I'm german.

it's a handshake to decide which one of them is a "better girl". So it's a handshake that decide who will wield the "losing aura" after that.
