Help (Pui Pui)
So, translating Pui Pui, I quickly found a confusing sentence I can't quite figure out.
いや変な言とつて悪かつた...
I'm getting either "You should be punished for saying such things like a bad person..." or "The bad person who told you such things should be punished...", but I'm not sure which is correct(if either).
For reference, the preceding sentence was:
そんな話
誰からきいたん
だ!?
(which I translated as You know, that kind of talk,
who told you such a strange story?)

Re: Help
Do you mind telling me who and where is the phrase from? Or send me the page for me to try and get an idea (vol 1 manga if it is vol 1, the novel if it is vol 2)
But i will need quite some time before i can tell you the answer...
I am having school and staying there until... 7hrs later?

Not totally sure about the second part without more context, but -te form warukatta is "Sorry for..."Beware the talking cat wrote:So, translating Pui Pui, I quickly found a confusing sentence I can't quite figure out.

Re: Help
I don't especially have a problem with how you put since it doesn't lose any of the meaning; however, I'd like to mention that even though particles are left off (を in this case), it doesn't need to be reflected that precisely in the translation. Just mentioning that because I actually have a habit of doing the exact same thing (especially when I'm rushing), but when I reread my own translations, it makes me go ???. Also, I believe hanashi can refer to any spoken matter, so it doesn't need to be "story" necessarily.jupiter_ringsid wrote:そんな話

Yes it's just like Trabius said, it goes something along this line:
"That kind of story, from whom did you hear about it?"
"No... Sorry if I said something weird..."

Re: Help
Thanks for the comment. It's just a rough translation, not to mention that I'm not a native English user. And yes, the translation of 'hanashi' depends what they're talking about, of course 'that' has a much more broader sense of meaning than 'story'.
The main point is that the translation shouldn't be :
"You should be punished for saying such things like a bad person..." or "The bad person who told you such things should be punished..."

Re: Help
Found it... from the manga? In chinese the translation is something like...
"Who told you something like that!?"
or
"Just where did you hear a story like that!?"
And following that, very similar to what has been translated...
"Its nothing, sorry if I said anything weird......"
Or as jupiter has translated
"No... Sorry if I said something weird..."
Just a rough translation from the chinese text

Re: Help
I need help as well...徹マン明け. What is this? The Chinese translation is sat up and played mahjong the whole night. Is that true?
"Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a man, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle."

Re: Help
Well, it's Margery we're talking about here, so what do you think it means? I found a phrase in the Internet which says: マージョリー=徹マン明けのお姉さん.Trabius wrote:Does it not fit the context? It's true that tetsuman can mean playing mahjong all night, although according to wikipedia, there's a potentially lewd alternate meaning. I highly doubt it's the latter though, so I'd go with the mahjong unless it makes no sense.
So maybe the latter meaning is intended? Anyway, I'll quote the context:
モデルはモデルでも徹マン明けのモデルだった
"Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a man, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle."

Re: Help
The author was describing Margery before she went shopping with Tanaka and Satou. Chinese text: 就算形容成模特儿,也是一个刚刚通宵打完麻将的模特儿.
I am wondering if there is any implicit meaning missed by the Chinese text, since Trabius mentioned that that phrase may contain other meaning. (the lewd one). And I am inclined to think that as well, since the book review in Amazon refer to Margery as 徹マン明けのお姉さん. So I think I doesn't make sense to describe Margery as "The big sister who plays mahjong throughout the night"? Unless that is what she does in the anime as well.
So does Margery play mahjong throught the night? Can anyone who watches the anime clarify this?
