かつ品 means?

Post by kuroi_shinigami »

Just want to ask what does かつ品 means. Have been searching in the internet, but can't find a good description or translation for it.

katsu shina?

mmm....

克つ; 贏つ 【かつ】 (v5t,vi) to win; to gain victory; (P)
(品 only) thing; article; goods; (2) (品 only) dignity; class; quality

victory goods? Winning items? prize victor?

うん、可愛い。特に顔色とは対極的に華やかで、かつ品みたい。

I was thinking of mannequin from かつら(wig) and 品(goods), but I'm not sure about it since for me mannequin is creepy instead of gorgeous/showy(華やか)

I'm not too sure myself, but I've asked on Yahoo here:

So nihontsukai is you? O_O I read your post all the time when I was looking for some "slang" word XD

Edit, it seems I miss some part in the original sentence. That's why the it was commented as sound strange in Japanese. The original sentence should have been :
うん、可愛い。特に顔色とは対極的に華やかで、かつ品のあるオシャレ

This should teach me not to depend on my memory when I post something

Katsu is used there as a connector like “and“ or “as well as“ for “hin no aru“ I'd say.

ha! that was exactly what i first came up with, specifically "and items", but i thought i got the kanji wrong, or at leased not the way it was suppose to be!

Well, it just goes to show you really have to read the whole sentence to get the real meaning.

There is only so much you can really do just by looking up the words in the dictionary!

Ah, I see. I think I've read somewhere before about using かつ as a connector instead of と. Now that you mention that, it makes perfect sense for me. The 品のある is a contraction of 品位のある(graceful). I really didn't think of reading the かつ as a connector before  The Japanese and Chinese could really use some space when they write a sentence

Thanks for all the help everyone ^^
