Book 2, Chapter 3 Discussion
Okay, first question... Pretty dumb one too...
友情 -功與過-
Title of the chapter...
Friendship -Contributions and Mistakes-
? Or are there better terms?
Name:
高橋修治
Translated as:
Takao Yuji.
Is this correct? >"< I HATE NAMES!
Anyways, hes just an extra... So i am using this name until further notice.
剪票口
What is the translation for this?
P.S more will be added slowly as i translate
Edit1: 多重的回音 layered echo? multiplied echo? stacked echo?
青年整個跌坐在地上, 半瘋半醒的眼神呆呆地望著地板.
The teenager stumbles onto the ground, staring blankly on the floor with half mad, half sane eyes?
Edit2: *IMPORTANT*
黏塊
Sticky piece... Clay piece? what should it be called?
How the hell do you describe slimes without calling them slimes?
Should i call them sticky substance instead? >"< Currently calling them sticky pieces...
GEEZ!! WHICH IDIOT STARTED USING SLIMES IN RPGs????
HOW THE HELL DO I DESCRIBE IT NOW!!
Edit3: 俐落
What is the translation for this? cleanly? bluntly? or...?

Re: Book 2, Chapter 3 Discussion
First time i am deferring from the actual words of the text, mind telling me if they are fine?“ “Thou who hast been blessed by the spirits, where does thy power lie?” “
[or more literally: People who receives the blessings of spirits, what is your power used for? In a more olden days context, similar to the ones used by Horo in S&W]
That is a pledge------ and an article during sermons. This is the most basic pledge that spirit standard Jutsushis act upon.
Ever since Ayano was little, Juugo has been repeating this sentence continuously. Even if she is completely out of it, she still remembers clearly the line that follows.
“My…… “My power lies to protect. As an ministrant of the spirits to slay the demons in this world, to uphold the truth is where our duty lies. Never to be forgotten------“ “
................
................
"To protect------ The people I love!"
In chinese, the exact words are... (Only the pledge/speech will be shown =X)
"接受精靈守護之人,汝之力量為何所用?"
People who received the spirits' protection, what is your power used for?
"吾之力量用於守護.以精靈協助者之身討伐世上妖魔,維護真理乃我輩使命.不可忘卻------"
My power is used to protect. As a spirit ministrant/accompanist of the spirits, to slay the youma in the world, upholding the truth is my/our duty. Not to forget------
"為了保護------我珍愛的人!"
For protecting--- The people I love/treasure!
So is the translation at the top of this post better?
P.S. 我輩 is "my" or "our"?

Well, I have a (poor) way to slove it. If you really do not know the romaji, use a kanji to romaji converter. Here's one.ShadowZeroHeart wrote: Name:

It may be accurate (I actually got Takahashi Shuuji as well). But I must warn you that a kanji can have *many* pronunciations/ possibilities, especially in names. The best way would be to check it against the original text, its hiragana. (Which is what Vaelis did).
Sorry, but I only reply to the ones I am sure of, as you clearly know how bad my Chinese is...ShadowZeroHeart wrote: "為了保護------我珍愛的人!"

我輩 (wagahai) is actually a japanese word, meaning I. However it is:
"archaic, somewhat boastful masculine"
to quote Wikipedia.
"Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a man, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle."

Re: Book 2, Chapter 3 Discussion
Is that so? If I were you, (if this term does not appear often), I'd translate it to I, then add a link to translator's notes which explains wagahai. If it is used often, just further add a note that the way this person speaks is "(archaic and) somewhat boastful".ShadowZeroHeart wrote: Someone posted another link before, not sure if it is the same. Erm... Yeah. As far as I know. Because if it is plural, it would have words like 'ra' or 'tachi' or 'kata'.

By the way, I was using another Chinese dictionary. Maybe it's better than nciku? Go check it out:

Sticky pieces... well, what is it you ask... You ever played Dragon Quest or something similar? You saw the slimes in there? These are meant to be these slimes... LOLxZyzzyva165 wrote:Don't think we have this in English. Maybe sticky pieces will do. What is it anyway?ShadowZeroHeart wrote:黏塊

Re: Book 2, Chapter 3 Discussion
N.O.P.E. But by googling the words I get the general picture. How about 'goo'? Cause I played Breath of Fire before, and one of the monsters is called 'gooey'. Anyway, the definition of 'goo' is
"a thick or sticky substance"
Hope it fits.
(The rest, maybe I'll take a closer look at them later, or some other time. Gotta go college soon... XD)
