If the sidebar stays at it is, I'm voting for removing this rule.

However, if Darko's sidebar changes go through and it is possible to separate inactive projects from active ones, I'm fine with "do not inquire about active projects".

Lol Kira, don't be so wishy-washy. I don't know how to count your vote.
Votes:
  • Do not inquire about activity - 1.5 votes
  • Do not inquire about activity unless you are translator - 1 votes
  • Remove all references to this rule - 0.5 votes
Talin proposed the second rule, so I added his vote for a yes for that retrospectively.
-----

Notice to everyone: If you take issue with any of the current approved rules, you must start a vote on the issue. Rules will be changed if a clear majority favoring one option is demonstrated.

If there is no clear majority, it's not getting changed. That's all.

"Activity" and "unless you are a translator" are too vague. I know it's not the intended meaning, but it could easily be taken as permission for existing translators to whine about other projects they are not involved with. E.g. xyz could go around demanding updates for Date a Live just because he is a English->Indonesian translator, purely hypothetically speaking, and the rule would allow it, because he is "a translator."

You could fix it by changing the clause to "unless you are a prospective translator intending to join the project in question", but the more words there are, the less likely people will read them (properly, at least). Besides, there's nothing to stop people from pretending to be prospective translators, just to ask their question. Hence, making reference to translators is quite pointless.

I'd change the wording to:
Read the project's registration page and recent updates before inquiring about translator status.

It's much clearer that way. Some people forget/are lazy to do that, hence some issues.

Seconded.

This is a better option.

Thirded. xD

Votes:
  • Do not inquire about activity - 0.5 votes
  • Do not inquire about activity unless you are translator - 1 votes
  • Remove all references to this rule - 0.5 votes
  • Read registration page before inquiring - 4 votes
Also, I got a PM. I have no idea which set of rules he was talking about though:

And 100% agree...

So I vote, "yes"...

Thanks for the information...

I consider 5-1 votes a decent enough majority.

Any Wiki Supervisor want to edit that page and replace that line with Zzhk's proposal?

Thanks Chancs.

Small comment, but next time someone gets a chance, can they link this thread as part of the "References" on the rules?

About the Reader Agreement included in I.:
Do not provide inappropriate or offensive content.
Any comments (e.g. images, text, video, etc.) that is of a pornographic, extremely violent, repulsive or disturbing nature, or otherwise unsuitable for minors, is expressly forbidden.
I understand why this rule is in place, but it seems to me that certain violent, pornographic, or disturbing content could be of some value to the wiki as translations or original light novels, so long as everything was marked properly or hidden behind an "are you sure" dialog box. If we're worried about search engines or Safe Eyes, I would be cool with hosting that sort of thing on a different domain.

Technically we have this already on the wiki to a certain extent (I find C3 disturbingly guro at times, but I've a known low tolerance for such things which is why I basically don't watch US TV dramas anymore :? ; and there's certainly borderline-h images with some series').

I believe the disclaimer is to stop the "porn for porn's sake" style things going up on the wiki, or things like the author's/artist's unofficial-'official' doujin works of their novels and such (like the 'unofficial' SAO chapter, or Masaki Kajishima's NSFW-but-plot-related Tenchi universe doujin, not that we have any Tenchi translations).

If that's the rule's purpose, would/could it be allowed to post a really good translation or OLN which contains explicit scenes?

@Himeko: That's pretty much our policy.

So long it isn't hentai or an ero doujin (in other words, hentai, or literotica), we're generally okay with it.

Mature light novels or works are fine, but they should be tagged with the appropriate warning. Example warning: http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index ... stay_night

So is it okay for us to have SAO's 16.5 chapter translated? It has the warning
