Seeing I play metal on guitar, I will say that it is much easier to do it with an electric guitar on a decent amp cranked up to 11 with the right pedals dialed in for the needed tone and feeling. At the same time, I tend to get more of my ideas on acoustic guitar like Tom Morello does, although it is just because I started playing acoustic first. So, if you are going to play metal on an acoustic guitar, I recommend using a soft pick for strumming and a harder pick for playing fast while using a medium to heavier gauge string. Also, make sure that your action is low enough. If not, adjust it so that you can play fast.

kira, that is not an acoustic. That is an acoustic-electric. There is a difference. If you use an amp, you will need a mic. Also, if you decide to distort that, you deserve to be slapped.

As for playing heavy metal on an acoustic, try this on for size.
