Where to buy light novels?

Post by OldGreg »

Anywhere cheaper than Amazon Japan (the shipping would kill my wallet lol) to buy light novels?
Thanks!

Off the top of my head I can recommend bk1 and YesAsia. The former offers, aside from the vast product range, a variety of shipment types (some of which are quite cheap though uninsured), while the latter doesn't offer as many novels and is more expensive, but ships for free if you buy for more than 30$ or so.

Lately, I've only used bk1 and I'm quite satisfied with it. I think it should be slightly cheaper than Amazon, depending on what you order.

There are some other import shops out there (e.g. such that mainly sell mangas), but all I've seen so far didn't have a wide range of light novels to offer.

If you live at southeast Asia, kinokuniya should be good for ordering your light novels if you only buy a few. It took a long time for the order to arrive since we have to wait for their stock order to arrive along with our orders, but the extra shipping cost is very cheap and there's no risk of you losing your item because you only pay after your order arrives.

Not sure if the kinokuniya bookstore in USA also receives order of light novel and mangas or not though.

The problem with those sites is that while you do not pay too harshly for shipping, you do pay a premium for them being from overseas.

You are taking them from the net either way. It is just how you do it.

Unless you have a shop in town that sells that kind of stuff or have a friend in Japan, in all likelihood you are ordering it from the internet.

There is an Otakuthon every year though. But no Chinese novels. In fact, it's hard to find a plain LN anyways.

Though I can't command online, so I have to search for fan-translations.

Legit channels for acquiring light novels / manga in digital form do exist.

Not that I am interested in reading on the reflective screens of ipad/iphone/android anyway...
