I think the most infamous one was the CPS putting a child who was abused in a foster home. 8 HOUSES AWAY.

Not just CPS but the system at large. One lesson I have learned in life is never let the government or law into your family life. They will never leave and will tell you that they know what is best for you. Apparently, according to them, I am an incompetent fool who is incapable of doing anything right for myself. Wow! "Let me get back to you when you can figure out the economy and all of those other issues lying around your house..."

Well I have faith in the government for certain things, but when it comes to children it tends to mess everything up.

@rpapo: In vocabulary and grammar every language its difficult on its own. Japanese the only "scary" thing is kanji for its size (even korean or arab are "doable" since it has very few glyphs in comparison). But when it comes to phonetic, japanese is the easiest foreign language for spanish speakers. It's not for age, there is nothing to learn because all sounds are the same in spanish. They even are readable in romaji (あ is spelled "a", か is "ka", "し" is "shi". even ほ is "ho" readed with aspired "h" like in english, but the sound is already on spanish as "jo" -e.g. abajo-).
I've seen different courses of japanese and they never practice sounds (I repeat, for spanish speakers).
We don't have to go through a repetitive practice until getting the correct sound or accent like in portuguese or french (I tried once french and the pronnunciation was the PAIN of it). Also accent in japanese is very flexible.

Of course japanese requires LOTS of study, but at least its phonetics and pronunciation is a relief. Compare it with korean or chinese (you have like 5 different accents for "a"!).

It's not like japanese is remotely near to this.

Thus why I find learning Japanese far far easier than learning mandarin.....despite being chinese by race....

If you think like an east-asian, then you can understand east-asian languages easier. The fundamental problems are not pronunciation, nor even the written script (though that's not easy), but rather the very different way of thinking and almost completely unrelated words.

What groups? Linguistic groups? That is a question better asked of linguists. I may be poly-lingual, but that doesn't make me a linguist...

That statement comes out quite funny in Spanish, since language => lenguaje => lengua => tongue. He who is bilingual has two tongues, like a snake
