I think the specials are worth watching, since it explores the relationship of the 1000 year ago plot.

Movie is just a rehash.

Also note: Mai Hime has an incredibly corny ending. And it's way better than the manga adaptation.

That's why I gave it a 8.5/10, since the ending was too cheesy for my liking. And it had one of the most annoying male leads in anime.

Other than that, Mai HiME is pretty good.

Since this anime review thread does real reviews, I'll post the final review of NHK ni Youkoso here.

9.3/10

It's. Fan. Tas. Tic.

Holy hell, this could probably be said to be as good as Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

It's... hard to describe... it's like trying to describe a really really really good show to someone.

Err... The characters are perfectly done... there's absolutely no instance of messed up character points. Even if I tried to look for one, there aren't any.

Voice work is incredible. Art is superb. Animation is well-done (there are some minor, hardly noticable errors here and there.). Also noteworthy is their attention to detail, right down to the porno reflected in the characters' eyes.

Don't let those synopsis-es decieve you, this story isn't some Excel Saga remake. There is very good cohesion between episodes and the characters develop beautifully. You won't be able to hate any of them and just as likely as you are to laugh at them, you'd cry with them too.

The ending is also great and fits right in with the story. It isn't rushed, nor is it overwhelming and it most definately doesn't leave you hanging (Damn you Twilight Princess!!!!).

You know what would be great? If some nice folks could translate the light novels. *angelic*

Anyway, watch it. If you're a Haruhiist, you'd definately want to pick this up.

Reasons why it's not a perfect 10:
1. Main character gets a little annoying at some points. But it happens to every anime. It's not really a big deal though.
2. Minor animation flaws like frame skipping.
3. They changed the ED!!!!! How could they!?!!! Abababababababba!!!!
...Tg...g.g........... And Kol Ravensabbey cried,

T...T..B..g........... And there was bloodshed.

A guy who's a hikikomori (recluse) gets "aided" against his will by a strange girl and they encounter all other kinds of social ills that pertain in modern day Tokyo.

Doesn't sound very impressive when explained in words =/

Bah. Gokusen blew. 13 episodes. Basically a watered down GTO with a female lead. Had to force myself to finish it, definitely wont watch it again. Probably going to start the GTO manga now. 8)

Oh yeah, 08ms team is awesome. Have you seen the extra episode too? It was one of those animes that I felt complete inside during the ending.

You should watching Gundam Z and ZZ though, they're awesome series.

Just finished the special episode. It never aired on TV before so I never got to see it. Nice way to wrap things up. :D I'll look into Z and ZZ. How would you compare it to 08th MS Team and Gundam Wing?

Gundam wing sucks. Lemme say that first of all.

Z and ZZ gundam is awesome, good action, good storyline. Watch it. Little less realistic compared to 08th ms team though.

LOL You used "realisitic" and "Gundam" in the same sentence!

And I hated 08th MS. In fact I never really warmed up to any of the Gundam series, they put in too much polotics to every series and I couldn't follow it all. I only want guys screaming "Ka-maya-maha!" and pounding on each other if I'm going to watch an action series.

Ok, more realistic in terms of durability, pilot ability, and strategies. In almost every other gundam series, the gundams are gods, the pilots are gods, and their strategy is rush and shoot everything that movies. At least in 08th ms team they used actual strategies.

Yeah they get jacked up in their suits against freaking Zakus and stuff. One reason I like Full Metal Panic was because it was very down to earth and the writer is definitely a war buff. Well anywho I need another action anime to keep me busy for a while. I've pretty much run out. Help me!

Action? Try Code GEASS - Lelouch of the Rebellion

It's got mecha, action, romance, and pron. Yes, pron. As in someone masturbating while looking at a someone else's photo.

Oh and it's also got Pizza Hut ;P
