Why the hell is baseball called the national sport when football(american) is more popular?

Baseball was most definitely the national sport of the United States up until the early to mid-90s when American football took over in popularity, which was only aided by the baseball strike some years ago (almost 10 now, I think?). I think people just got tired of the pitcher stepping off of the mound five times, which led the batter to change bats ten times after that, only to have the catcher call a time out to adjust his jock strap, resulting in the coaches getting peeved with the umpire about a call on a play that did not happen yet to provoke a fight. Yep, nothing happened in that space of time for the advancement of the sport called baseball.

Good thing you didn't do intermural baseball.

And I agree, American Football's more popular. You don't see the Super Bowl being the most-watched show in the year for nothing.

However, SB is only one day, conmpared to the WS, which are generally around 6-7 games. Also, football is only played during the week-end, while baseball is nearly 6 games/7 days for a normal MLB team.

I do not think that the Nielsen ratings take that into account though.

Anyways, here in Quebec, our national sport, more than hockey, is to bash Benoit Brunet.

I have, and Im only good at the sports that dont require much upper body strength. (I can't tackle worth crap)
