For me...it is a source of enjoyment. I do the editing to where I think is required. By this I am able to improve my vocab/grammar in English. Cross checking my edits with those done after me shows me my mistakes and I learn from it. I mean...Shit...by doing things you enjoy one can learn faster. Ain't it :) :) :)

That's also one of the main reasons for me, although I'd need to translate at a breakneck pace to translate all the novels that I enjoy. :D
Another reason is to kill time (which is so easy it's not even funny). And last but not least: for my EEE-peen.
