look at what happened to full metal panic!.

BOMF got translated half way, then boku-tachi vanished (or something else, I haven't done enough research) and two other guys picked it up, and finished it. Then, this guy called Shutazen picked up Come make my day, and Nick of Time. So even if you stop halfway, as there as there is truly interest in the novel, someone else will come along. finish a chapter, call it good, and translate something more people would read, and you would enjoy working on. I don't really want to see you push yourself too hard on something you don't like, when it's free and your not getting service hours for college, ^)^

Not arguing against your point, just clearing up the timeline.

1.Boku-Tachi starts BOMF.
2.FMP book series is licensed.
3.This causes Boku-Tachi to drop BOMF.
4.Ravyn-Pheonix picks up BOMF.
5.After translating about half, she drops it because of a new job and a loss of her notes.
6.A long long time later, shusatzen picks it up again and finishes it.
Tada!

You forgot the short BOMF project we had, which lasted for about... err, 1 chapter? Before it got terminated due to licensing.

Revised Version:
1.Boku-Tachi starts BOMF.
2.FMP book series is licensed.
3.This causes Boku-Tachi to drop BOMF.
4.We pick up BOMF for about 48 hours before the big boss shuts us down.
5.Ravyn-Pheonix picks up BOMF.
6.After translating about half, she drops it because of a new job and a loss of her notes.
7.With okay from the big boss, I pick up BOMF and translate about half a paragraph before I realize it is #$@%@ hard to translate a language you know next to nothing of.
8.A long long time later, shusatzen picks it up again and finishes it.
