So do we have an update on this supposed, yet to be confirmed, project?

This seems to be a very worthy read.

Unfortunately, no. You have to wait for someone willing to volunteer translating this series.

Just wanted to point out someone has translated the first chapter of Beatless, although he has since dropped it for reasons you can find in his post.

Guy who translated chapter 1 here.

This series is seriously unpleasant to read in Japanese. There's a nice story about a world with human-identical robots hidden somewhere in Beatless, but it's covered up by the huge pile of steaming shit that is Satoshi Hase's writing style. I honestly don't think that anybody is going to enjoy reading this or translating this, and would advise potential translators to devote their efforts to other, more worthy projects. (Or translate the Beatless manga - it'll probably be less shitty because there should be way less Satoshi Hase prose. I'd do this myself, but I can't find raws.)

That said, if anybody does want to pick this up for some bizarre reason, they're welcome to incorporate my translation of chapter 1 (just credit me please). Also, chapter 1-4 raws (pdf; you can copy text out of it if you try hard enough) are available at http://www.mediafire.com/?viauncd4epeqoyj if anybody needs that.

Ah, interesting. I might just take you up on the Beatless manga translation once I get around to scanning my copy (for scanlation), as I'm fairly certain my meager Japanese wouldn't be anywhere near your level. I do appreciate your translation though, and from the little I could read of the raw text, you spiced it up quite a bit.

Got the novel while in Japan....

For anyone who says this is hard to read....well, it's nothing compared to Circlet Girl.

Satoshi's writing is dull but his world more than pays off...like reading Lovecraft

QFT.

Being originally a media-mix project between Newtype and Goodsmile, Beatless was obviously written with the general public (esp. younger readers) instead of hardcore SF fanatics as target readers. It is as easy/difficult as any other serialized novel in the Newtype magazine. Anyone with a reasonable grasp of Japanese should be able to go through it without much problem.

Well I can't really say Sensei's writing in Beatless is dull - more like descriptive and detailed in a good way, as demanded by the nature and the weight of story and its settings. Circlet Girl is however over-complicated with missing subjects and all kinds of literature confusions.

As for Lovecraft, it is either an acid trip, or a suffocating experience like sticking your head into a bucket of drying concrete, depending on your taste. :p

I hope that somebody decides to pick this up. I would love to read this. The story seems interesting, and I love the artist, redjuice. For now, I will just read the manga, but I would much rather read the original source material.

Btw, I can't read japanese, so I would really appreciate it if someone could help, because I've been wanting to read beatless but can't, due to the language barrier :(
Well, you have the adaptation to manga in mangafox.
By the way, someone know if this LN is famous in the Japan? Or is new in the market? Because when a light novel have a adaptation to manga means that soon will have a anime. Oh and I don't have read the manga, I only took a look.

It's more like he doesn't do vividness as well as say...Kawakami-sensei or Kambayashi-sensei

Seems like an official English translation will be posted there. There are rumors saying that the illustrations may be changed (as a Wit Studio animator is involved in the project).

I'm very excited by this news, not as much because of this novel (I hadn't heard of it, but it seems interesting), but because this could be a new model for official LN translations. The details seem a little scarce at the moment, and I don't quite understand if they're going to try to make money off it, or if it's just an experiment. But having Japanese companies interested in, and measuring international interest in, English translations is perhaps the first step in a business model where a Japan based company could deliver translations directly to the international audience and bypass the hesitancy of local publishers. It seems like this novel has been created and marketed a little differently than normal LNs, so I don't think things are guaranteed to head in that direction, but it's an interesting idea.

EDIT: I admit that I'm more excited than is actually warranted by the news; I like ideas.

EDIT2: After looking through the otakumode website again, I see that it is not a Japan based company (I had misidentified the 'Brunch office' entry of "Tokyo" for the 'Headquarters' entry). Oh well, don't mind me.
