The title of "Live A Live"
I would like to figure out that in Chinese version the title of this chapter is translated to "Live Alive". (Yes, that's the English title that appeared in Chinese version.) I think we should stick to this translation, since it is more "official".

You could work it out by thinking of what the author intended.
But the thing is, i think it's meant to be a play on words.
So if it's "Live Alive", the play on words isn't that obvious, but "Live A Live" makes less sense. "Live Alive" is also harder to tell whether it's live (to live) or live (live concert), but that's just english and we'll have to live with it.
I think we should go with "Live Alive" because it is more meaningful.

It can't really be vis-a-vis, can it? I think you're confusing Vis with Vive.gwon wrote:oh oops i just realised. It's a play on vis-à-vis. Am I thinking too much, or is it really cool how there's a play on words in japanese, english and french?Kinny Riddle wrote:"Live A Live" sounds more accurate, must be a French thing
I think we really have to take Kinny at his word here, even though Live A Live doesn't really mean much in English. It's not as if Live Alive really sings to us, is it?
And speaking of singing, we could always just hyphonate it like in the chorus to the Irish Folk "Molly Malone"? Live A-Live (o?)
In Dublin's fair city, where the girls are so pretty
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone
As she wheeled her wheelbarrow through streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive a-live O!
A-live a-live O! A-live a-live O!
Crying cockles and mussels alive a-live O!

My guess is it is meant to be understood both as live alive (the obvious phonetic way) such as living your life fully; which is kind of Haruhi's way of thinking.
and Live a Live as in live concert since the big happening of the chapter IS about a concert after all
and here I registered just to post that haha
