I have no idea how to do anything but edit. Help on navigating this website, especially the talk and preferences stuff would be appreciated

Editing[edit]

Hey, thanks for helping with those tips. I do appreciate it. I was just about to despair, and quit my helpful disposition when you came along. I had just edited one chapter several times, since the server kept refuting me edits. I'll take that as a sign to go on. Once again, thanks.

Question: You are also editing "Shield Hero", right? Also, should I talk to you here, or somewhere else? And lastly, should we bother editing the "preview" chapters? Buahaha. Sorry for the endless questions, too. I strongly prefer "Oyaji" to "Old Man". Should I change it? Sorry for being such a bother. Andreyk37 00:55, 17 March 2015 (CDT)

Hi Todouǃ I reverted your edits for chapter 1 & 2, mostly because you were changing the general syntax. I'm sorry, but could you please not make such massive changes? Firstly, there will be 400+ chapters by the time the translation's done. You'll burn out. Secondly, some people like me, used to Japanese-translated English, prefer sentence structures closer to the original Japanese versions. Thanks!128.101.13.249 09:23, 17 March 2015 (CST)

If you want to know 'why previews?', just read my talk page. Even though I just labeled them previews, my added chapters were nearly deleted. Annoying guidelines.

As for why your edits haven't been touched - none of the current editors are omnipotent gods. We don't look over every single edit history of every single chapter every single day. And none of us have access to the page that lists all the changes for the site.

Todou, I reverted your edits for 289 for similar reasons to the anonymous guy above. In my case, I just edit the chapters' grammar to the best of my ability, and move on. I don't do what you're doing because I'm too lazy to edit so many chapters, and also out of respect for the translators' opinions. A displeased translator = Apocalypse. And, like the anonymous guy, many readers do prefer sentences closer to the Japanese structure. I think I might be part of that group.

Still, I'm a bit curious - Just why are you changing so much? Many of your changes to 289 seemed superficial. The meaning and flow of your changed sentences were no different from the originals. Exampleː

“It’s a promise with me!” (Raphtalia) -> “Promise me!” (Raphtalia)

In cases like that, I usually just use the translator's opinion.

Regardless, your edits seem to keep grammar in mind, and you clearly work hard. If you persist in editing, I welcome you.

Ah, right. One last thing. I noticed you refer to the Tate no Yuusha project on the supervisor's page as 'LN'. Nope, this is the web novel translation. They are separate, and diverge in plot around the Calmira Island arc.

Hm, it seems that whatever you do, there'll be dissatisfaction. If you start mass changes, the current readers, used to the old format, would rebel. However, in return, those who dislike the current format, currently not reading, may join the community. It feels like you're taking large risks, in return for a reward of uncertain magnitude.

Uh, do we come from different parts of the world, with different English customs? Or perhaps reading Japanese translations has slightly changed my sense of English. To me, the phrase 'It's a promise with meǃ' makes perfect sense. Its meaning basically overrides a Naofumi's freedom of choice, and imposes a promise upon him regardless of his will. Quite common in Japanese syntax, I think. Your version, 'Promise meǃ', takes Naofumi's opinion into consideration, phrasing it as a request that can be either denied or accepted.

I'm so jealous of you - my roommate was a sex addict who kept bringing in women. We had nothing in common...T_T

Chapter 38[edit]

As I've said previously, some of the chapters are not fully translated. Review the pastebin link where they're translated, especially for chapter 38. Some of them are still half or three-fourths translated but not all the way. Preview only shows all the english translated, but chapter 38 still has quite a lot left to finish translating, so some of the chapters need translators to finish translating and upload them.
