Accel World[edit]
I took a quick look at your Accel World volume 1 chapter 6 translation. I don't know if that is your translation style or the Chinese source you are using is bad. But it is missing too much detail compared to the novel. I don't think that is acceptable for a novel translation. Xplorer30 - Talk 15:22, 13 May 2012 (CDT)
If you can make that detailed summary, but still a summary into something that matches the Japanese release book version close enough, then that should be fine. But I don't think this site allow posting of summaries as direct translations, no matter how detailed they are. What do you mean by Kanji source, is that the Japanese novel? I don't care about summaries being put into other sites for fans, but here we want what we put in to match the books as much as possible. Since no one other than people who can read the actual books will be able to edit and fix that summary. I hope we can work together too, but let me be blunt, I don't want just summaries on that project. Xplorer30 - Talk 18:18, 13 May 2012 (CDT)
We translators work at our own pace. You just do what you can at your own speed. But again, putting up just summaries as full translation due to being quick is not acceptable. People who expect us to have as complete translation as possible will wonder what's going on. If you still want to go fast and do summaries, then maybe put them as preview versions beside the actual chapters. Xplorer30 - Talk 18:27, 13 May 2012 (CDT)
I do my translation on Google Docs, since translating just on wiki is very hard for editing and stuff. If you have a friend or two, you can even get them to help you with the translation on Google docs before you upload it to the wiki. Whatever you do, if you can put in the actual book details, then I welcome your help on this project. Xplorer30 - Talk 18:40, 13 May 2012 (CDT)
I got curious when I heard Xplorer say that it was a summary more than a translation. What was the source, exactly? Because I always used Chinese fan-translations as my material, I did hear from people that I got some things wrong, but most of the time it was correct. Would you mind giving the source? Thx Kira (Talk) 20:16, 13 May 2012 (CDT)
Taïwan edition or Mainland China's? Simplified or traditional? Kira (Talk) 20:33, 13 May 2012 (CDT)
Ah...well, blame it on Kadokawa's branch in Mainland China. I think the novel was probably changed into a more Chinese format.
How about checking this source? http://www.wenku8.cn/novel/0/381/13749.htm --Kira (Talk) 20:33, 13 May 2012 (CDT)
Xplorer mentioned that it looked more like a "summary", and you say that you translated everything. The difference between a summary and a bad translation, as bad as it could be, is quite important. So look through the link I gave you. Just by the last line of the translation, I can say that the two versions are quite different. BTW, you might understand Chinese better than me, a highschool kid who never properly learnt Chinese.
So, how's the link? Kira (Talk) 20:47, 13 May 2012 (CDT)
About editing my English grammar and stuff, feel free. This kind of stuff anyone can edit without asking for permission. Just if you need to change the meaning a lot, be sure to back it up with some kind of raw source for it. Xplorer30 - Talk 23:58, 13 May 2012 (CDT)
Did you go through all of volume 1 chapter 5 PV that is there? If you did, then it seem to be better than the chapter 6 you done earlier. I could only find one paragraph missing (jp raw page 152, the about middle paragraph). There were a few places where the translations were a bit strange, but I don't know where the problem is from since you are re-translating a translation from the original. Can you read jp at all? If you can, then probably do a quick check with the jp raw. Let me just say that I won't have time to check and edit all your work. Xplorer30 - Talk 00:23, 16 May 2012 (CDT)
It's not that "Pray to God line..." on page 151. That is part of the next paragraph and it's sort of just a "Please..." which you already have. While we are on that line, the part after it sort of means it's not possible to rewind time even with BB that could almost stop time. The one I was talking about is on page 152, starting with "That could easily take a week. ..." and has "Chiyuri = <<Cyan Pile>>" in it. Xplorer30 - Talk 15:00, 16 May 2012 (CDT)
The detail I was talking about was mostly missing paragraphs and lines. Translation detail is something that's totally different case. Anyway that line is "頼むから三十分だけ時間を巻き戻してくれ!!", which is about what you had translated too. There is nothing in there about kneeling and begging to God. If your Chinese source had that in there, then that is their translation problem.
As for novel illustrations, are you talking about uploading them or translating them? For me, I want to get more chapters done than translate those now, maybe later if there are lots of demand for illustration translations.
About your friend helping, what is his translation skill level? I don't really want someone that I need to waste a lot of time checking their work as a helper. Xplorer30 - Talk 17:21, 16 May 2012 (CDT)
Do you have an email address or someplace that I can send you the link for the jp raw? We are not allowed to post links to those here. If you have an account in BT forum, then I can PM it to you from there. Xplorer30 - Talk 18:24, 16 May 2012 (CDT)
I got tired of playing hide and seek, so I did a quick translation of the missing line and put it in. You can check and fix it if need. I also comment out the extra lines of your guesses. I didn't touch any other questionable translations though. Let me just say it again, I don't have time to do this kind of checking for anyone again and agian. So either you can do the translations properly, or find someone else to help. If I have to go through everything that you translate, then that's not much less effort than me translating them all. My previous work with someone made me totally dislike working with a translator doing re-translation of a translation already, I really don't need another reminder of it. By the way, did you get the jp raws? Xplorer30 - Talk 23:43, 16 May 2012 (CDT)
You don't need to report your daily or whatever progress to me. Like I said before, we work at our own pace. When you are done with translating and fixing chapter 5, you can tell me about it to make it into a proper chapter page. Then probably you can go fix chapter 6? Xplorer30 - Talk 15:08, 17 May 2012 (CDT)
Thanks for the quick edit! if i have time and you need help, just leave me a message :D. I'm not sure of this edit on this though: A ten point reward is awarded in a two versus two tag team match with parties’ that have equal total level values. Regardless how many times the echoing metallic melody is being played, it will not get sick of it. The points rosed from 298 points to 308 points for Haruyuki. - Lan013 21:08, 18 May 2012 (CDT)
My sincere apology.Words can't convey enough apologies for the problems that I've caused. Please forgive my insolence.Hopefully you can forgive me for overstepping my boundary.--User753-Talk- 07:54, 20 May 2012 (CDT)
Minor edits on Baka-Tsuki is open to everyone including anonymous edits, there is no need to ask for permission to make minor edits, what needed permission are changing of the terms or major edits which might change the intend meaning, editing conflicts could happen from time to time but wiki will cache the changes and apply them later, nothing would be lose. User753 did absolutely nothing wrong here and I appreciated his edits. -- BeginnerXP - Talk 08:30, 20 May 2012 (CDT)
Like I said before, anyone can edit English grammar on wiki without asking for permission. Just changing meanings a lot are the ones that need care and better talked about before changing. I was going to move your preview page to the proper chapter name when you are done to keep the edit logs, but guess will leave it for this time. Xplorer30 - Talk 14:57, 20 May 2012 (CDT)
You should register what you are working on in the Registration page, so people know what you are working on and won't take it by mistake. Xplorer30 - Talk 18:47, 20 May 2012 (CDT)
This page here. Accel World Registration. Every project has one of these, to prevent translator conflicts. Xplorer30 - Talk 19:15, 20 May 2012 (CDT)
Understood.Thank you very much.--User753-Talk- 19:18, 20 May 2012 (CDT)
Not sure if you know of this or not, but take a look in Accel World Project specific Guidelines: Names and Terminology page when you can. It is always better if we use the same terms and names. Tell me if there is something you don't like and want to talk about changing. Xplorer30 - Talk 01:06, 21 May 2012 (CDT)
A preview page is only for people putting up very rough pages like machine translations. If you are going to translate properly, you don't need those kind of pages. I will move your chapter 7 page back to the proper chapter name. A different question is, how come you are going to chapter 7 without fixing chapter 6? If there's no specific reason, I would prefer to let people read a better chapter 6 first. Xplorer30 - Talk 01:53, 22 May 2012 (CDT)
Yea, the current Chapter 6 is what I would call a Preview. So if you can fix that first, would be better. Thanks. Xplorer30 - Talk 03:10, 22 May 2012 (CDT)
Misc[edit]
By the way, your user name is case sensitive in the wiki. I think you put your signature in manually and caused an error so it did not display properly. It's better to just use ~~~~ to sign your messages. If you want to put Talk in that signature as well, then edit your preferences signature section to be [[User:Jinxiang|JinXiang]] - [[User_talk:Jinxiang|Talk]]. Good luck with that.
