By "men's cheerleading squad" you mean the Ouendan? I think that that's usually translated as "cheering squad" since 1)while they are mostly male-oriented, they are not male-exclusive and 2)the don't do cheerleading-like performances. A male cheerleader is still a cheerleader, but an Ouendan member is not. They usually wear gakuran (typical highschool uniform for males based on old military uniforms) and cheer from the stands in a loud voice, often accompanied by taiko (large japanese drum) beats and any "performance" they do is mostly based in a mix of typical stands' cheering and martial arts while not moving an inch from their spot. Cheerleaders, even male, on the other hand, tend to do colourful and showy performances with lots of acrobatics and dances, cheering from the sides of the field or near it. Ouendan members are often depicted as thug-like.--Kemm (talk)
