Shakugan no Shana, Which is closer to the novels

I’ve just started watching and collecting Shakugan no Shana I have the first season, I will properly be getting the next season and ova's next month and the month after that the final season is released in my country
I have a simple question for those who have read the LN's
Which is closer the manga or anime, by closer I mean storyline wise? I know from rough experience that they usually change things in the anime, more so it seems with jc staff
