Okay, well I realized a couple of things, 1) I never made an official announcement that I shut the site down here...and 2) After Oni said he liked the Torajima! story, I never gave a synopsis :)

Anyway, I've finally read up to half-way into chapter 2, and here's the...unorthodox, unique story
Spoiler! :
It starts out with these thieves that try to rob a temple, because they get rumors about a special article of cloth, which they think would be something embroidered with gold and silk, and have a special property, etc etc...but they're shocked to find out what it is...so they decide to sell it to a second hand clothes shop for beer money.
***
Then we are introduced to Eita, a second year high school student, (a junior in the american system, or 11th grade), and his Mother, Eiko, in their apartment where they live. This particular day, Eita ends up not having any underwear to wear to school, because his mom put them out to dry the previous night, not knowing it would rain. So they're all wet...(most Japanese that live in apartments don't have dryers. Usually a washer, but not really any dryers.) Anyway, Eventually she brings out this pair of Tiger Striped underwear that she had bought him FROM A SECOND HAND CLOTHES STORE to use in the winter. Reluctantly, he wears them to school, saying as soon as he gets another pair, these are going in the trash.
***
At school, we are introduced to a girl he kinda likes, and one of his friends. But it's just in time for an unexpected assembly in the Gym! To recap quickly, Eita is a second year high school student. The previous year, he missed this event because he was out for a while with a pretty bad cold. So he even missed the gossip and stuff. Anyway, apparently for some forty-some years, this school has been performing some kind of "Demon of the Underwear" hunt or something...and this is where I think it gets a little wierd, but...for some reason it still pulls you in, lol. The objective of this day is pretty much for all the members of Clubs to chase all the students that aren't in Clubs, (the ones in the "go-home-after-school-club") and take off A PAIR of their underwear, which makes the caught student join the club which took his underwear...
Okay, I KNOW this sounds ridiculously stupid and weird...but it goes on.
Spoiler! :
So Eita and his friend start running all over the place, watching students getting their under-garments taken left and right. However, all the students knew about the day, so they are wearing an extra pair of boxers or something similar, no BIG deal. But Eita didn't know about it, and if he heard anything, just tossed it to the back of his mind. So not only was he wearing embarrassing Tiger Striped Briefs, but he wasn't wearing anything underneath them...O_o
***
Eventually, the girl he likes calls out to him to follow her, and he blindly follows, only to wind up having her betray him, just having tried to get him caught by her boyfriend, to join his club. However, this guy (in the boxing club) is sadistic, and has a camera where he took pictures of people without any of their briefs on, to bribe them for money and stuff...but when the girlfriend hears of this, she dumps him O_o. Man this is one troublesome day for Eita...But then something strange happens. When he's about to have his underwear taken off, he closes his eyes and screams. When he opens his eyes, the boxing club members are all out cold. He gathers his clothes, and off he goes with his friend, who found him through the hole in the wall that the boxing club captain had made from his body being flung somehow... I don't know too much at the moment, but remember: The garment came from a guarded temple and was regarded as sacred for some reason...(on top of that, the synopsis on the back makes mention of there being a connection between the undergarment and a demon.)
***
Next day, Eita gets surrounded by bad-a$$es from a different school, who heard how he beat up the whole boxing team, and challenge him. Eita, in his newfound superiority, accepts, only to have his bottle handed to him, so to speak. (he sucked) The reason for his loss? It's not explained, but you can guess it's because he wasn't wearing the bad-a$$ tiger boxers.
***
A few days later, the Newspaper Club posts an article of him, with a picture taken by one of his friends, that shows him in the tiger briefs. This catches the attention of someone, who knows about those demon-possessed briefs. She calls him out, and eventually they go into a secluded area to get away from anybody hearing anything about the conversation. However, at the same time, they were being followed by Eita's friend, (who wanted to take pictures to sell to the newspaper club) and the girl who lured Eita earlier in chapter 1. (she was part of the newspaper club) That's where I'm at now. So far, there's been nothing perverted or anything, like pantsu or anything, at least looking at it from a guys perspective...but getting past that freaky school event, things get interesting.
Anyway, that's just chapter 1 and some of chapter 2, which is hardly nothing. It's a 4 chapter book, and there are two volumes out so far.

well...what do you think?

judging from your answer just now, that's part of the reason, lol. (it happened more than a month ago).

It wasn't getting too many views, I threw in alot of my time over breaks to work on it, and thus flunked my exams and had to repeat for 3 months, (though in all honesty it was a small part of the reason) and I've been waiting for the db.lightnovel.org site to kick up.

It will be different from B-T in that instead of hosting translations, it will just be a database site where a user can browse through lists of light novels by genre, publisher, author, title, etc etc to find novels that they might want to read, or recommend for translations, or learn to translate themselves. People like me would find a novel, get an image, put it on that site with a plot outline, and maybe a review, and you know, the works on the novel. Writer, dates, illustrator, main points, characters and their personalities, etc. It's a wiki, so it gets updated as the material comes in.

Though this site has been undergoing :working on: status for quite along time...

Hey Oni, just a thought, but what about using one of those free site names to make something like:

database.baka-tsuki.org

or

baka-tsuki.org/database

or something like that, and have it be another wiki style site, but with emphasis on just having a place for english information on light novels? I've got at least 10-15 books I've already got plots translated for, and have around 3 series I can give more in depth reviews on, but....

A) My site is too much work. A wiki would be nice.

B) lightnovel.org isn't doing much these days

C) B-T not only gets alot of hits, it's where the information should be gathered!

what do you think?

Ooooh.

that's a good idea!

Like a wikipedia but for light novels right? provide information and maybe reviews for novels/series?

But I wonder if the server can take that sort of traffic?

I mean, running two wiki's on the same server?

It's something that has to addressed to the Big Boss for further information.

If it's possible, I don't see why not.

Uf not...maybe we can use the wiki that we got already?

Make a...erm..portal? or something....?

I foresee one problem though, won't the new wiki need a team of moderators to ensure that the entries conform to a certain standard so that the wiki would be a useful database? And would we have the manpower to staff this moderation team? Since this database (from what I understand) will be updating information about lesser known light novels (i.e those not already on wikipedia), I guess the moderators would need to be sufficiently proficient in japanese so as to verify the information given, and to improve on such entries. Other than that one problem, I also think that it's a great idea :D

If we do this, we'll probably get hounded to pick up a ton of the novels we list.

We can always politely tell those people who hound us to poke off and do the translating and editing themselves

Don't we do that already?
Shadow takes the brunt of it though ^_^

But yeah, if the traffic issue is a concern, then putting it on the same server/wiki would be fine, with a portal or something. I'm not too sure on the details, which is why I asked, but it does seem like a really valuable addition to the Japanese L-N community.

As for updating and confirming...do the moderators usually confirm the text for novels to make sure they aren't fan-written stories? I'm just trying to draw an analogy that the moderators can't know everything, which is the point of the wiki, to give some of the power to the users. Usually, if a novel is popular enough, someone else will pick up the book and read the synopsis for real, and if there are changes edit them.

EDIT: I just realized dragonst was talking about more than checking translations, you meant making sure the outlines and layouts of the pages are all similar, like how they are on the B-T translations section...this might be a catch, but even so the translations section is doing okay, go go moderators ^_^

However, your right we shouldn't disregard their position either...I'd be willing to pick up as a moderator, for checking things like author, publication dates, and the plot outline (story), though I probably wouldn't be able to check up the more detailed aspect of the more in depth information.

But if the Big Boss agrees that it would be a good addition to the community, and it can be done for free piggybacking on the same server as now, I think it would be a really good thing to do.

Also, when people google a novel, and B-T doesn't have it, it's usually really hard to find good English information. So having somewhere with at least the basic information on novels, it would most likely increase traffic on B-T as well, if that's a good thing...O_o
